It was 2 years ago today when the phone rang at 7am from a resident of St. Marys saying there was a piglet on her front yard. We had just taken in 4 piglets from a high school prank a month earlier so space was tight but we went and picked her up before she ended up at a hobby farm to be raised for meat. No one knows how she ended up in the middle of town but thankfully we were able to act fast and bring her to safety. Aggie was in rough shape but with vet care and time she recovered and is now living peacefully at a no-harm hobby farm with another rescued pig that Cedar Row helped. ❤️ #ForTheAnimals

I was vegetarian, and was shocked once I witnessed the extensive cruelty that occurred within dairy when I came across YouTube videos revealing the industry’s abusive reality. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’d encourage you to look into these industries as well! You may find that they aren’t as “humane” as we’re told growing up. I want you to meet this beautiful little one I met today, who never knew or will know kindness or peace, who's short and miserable life that was only valued in price per kilo and will end today in a gas chamber. A sentient individual with absolutely no moral value in our culture, a sentient individual treated worse than IKEA treat their furniture. ▫️ Mostly when bearing witness, you meet at least one individual that leaves an unforgettable print inside you, a memory to carry in your heart forever. It's our duty to tell about these individuals, to tell their stories and express what these fates went through and why and thereby leave traces in other people's hearts to accumulate compassion and empathy. This morning, I volunteered at @kindredspiritscarefarm - a sanctuary for animals who would’ve otherwise been killed for human wants. - And this is Jose, a loving, beautiful rooster rescued from slaughter. - To many of us, the thought of hurting them is unbearable, and events like the Yulin Dog Meat Festival disgust us. - And not only because from our point of view, they are our “best friends” but because using and killing them would violate their freedom and their will to live. - And so in their ability to suffer and their will to live, are other animals like cows, chickens, pigs, fish, turkeys and goats any different? - If we met them while they’re alive, would we think the right thing to do is to protect them, or harm them? - Every time we consume any animal product, we are doing the same thing as what people do during the Yulin Dog Meat festival. - We are contributing to a system of violence against innocent animals, who we wouldn’t otherwise want to see being harmed. - All the while believing that those products come from happy animals, because that’s what the meat dairy and egg industries want us to believe. - But does any animal ever walk willingly into a slaughterhouse? - Is any animal thrilled to get their throat slit so we can consume their body? - If you want to defend all animals. Did you know that mama pigs sing to their babies whilst they nurse? They also name their babies and the piglets learn their own names and come to their mother when called. Pigs constantly communicate and they love snuggling together, sleeping nose-to-nose and they often dream. They’re curious, insightful and one of the most intelligent animals on this planet (more so than dogs and primates). Mongo here greeted me with grunts of welcome as I asked him whether I could come in for a cuddle. We lay together, snuggled in warmth away from the rain, as I gave him belly rubs. Mongo has a dear friend called Avo (seen in the second photo) who he helped welcome into @friendfarmanimalsanctuary . Avo was quarantined on arrival after his rescue to ensure his good health. During this time he was alone but just on the other side of the wall was Mongo. They communicated over months without ever seeing each other and when Avo’s quarantine was over and he was allowed to greet the other pig residents he and Mongo met in person for the first time. They have not been separate since, eating, sleeping, walking and talking together every day at the sanctuary. They are the best of friends and have become a family duo. Pigs, like all animals, deserve respect and freedom to explore this world and share their individuality. Visit your local sanctuary and spend time with non-human animals.
