It’s really brought my spirits up! More lovely portraits to showcase the Nouveau belt. The belt is an original art nouveau leaf and floral fittings and the body of the belt is in white silk charmeuse. It gives the wearer an elegant and tasteful appearance to their silhouette! History: In Edwardian Fashion we always talk about those sumptuous bodices and dresses. However, we do not talk about an important piece, the belt. In women’s fashions of the era it was important to emphasize their small waists, so the belt was necessary to enhance their looks. Belts were shaped in many different and be wore in different occasions of the time. Evening belts were embellished and thicker belts were mostly used for evening dresses, while thinner belts were used with day dresses. As shown in my portraits. Belts that were higher in the back and lower in the front to give a sort of “dipped waist” look was common in the period. This enhances the pouter pigeon that was in vogue. Belts could be embroidered and filled with beading and lace details, a truly unique accessory to an outfit. With evening gowns, fancy sashes could be used the same way, but were not used as often as real belts. The most common belt was a pointed shape. These belts were paired most typically with shirt waists and skirt ensembles, and were most often neutral colors so they could be reused for multiple outfits. This is a practice I do currently. This keeps my pieces looking fresh and fashionable for the time!
