Thank you to my Instagram followers and friends who have helped me reach 15,000 followers today! ❤️ Most of you, or many of you, appreciate lovely art and antiques, mixed in a comfortable setting, so that they are practical for today’s living. I try my very best to post examples of that, and sometimes just a lovely vignette. . . This room has everything that I like, from antiquities to 18th century furniture and accessories, and a few items from the 19th century as well. I find the blue wall color to be quite charming and calming, and the light checkerboard floor to be a nice blend also. I might add an oriental rug area rug if it were me designing this room, but as it is I think it is quite nice. There is a modern, comfortable sofa and chair, and great light in this room. The tall lamps on the variegated rouge marble fireplace mantle and the interesting hanging of art work on the built-in bookshelves adds to the interest in this creatively decorated and designed room. Here is very comfortable living room, furnished with 18th and 19th century antiques, beautifully arranged. Abundant natural light makes the warm antique oriental rug and the antiquities in the shelves not need any special lighting. Red wall colors add warmth and tie into the rug and other furnishings. In the evening there are matching crystal chandeliers which would provide good lighting, as well as table lamps. . . Other interesting accessories include an early antique Buddha statue on a shelf, and an T’ang dynasty glazed Chinese pottery camel statue. The sofas and arm chairs around the room provide ample seating for family or friends. Beautiful freshly cut flowers on the handsome coffee table blend in with all the other colors in the room. This is a great looking room with a little bit of everything. First of all, it’s comfortable looking. The pair of chairs look quite comfortable, and a little table in front of them is large enough for a small floral display and a tray with beverages. It has interesting artwork on the walls from many different time periods - from 19th-century to modern -nicely framed and arranged. There is antique furniture from the 19th century which serves a decorative and practical purpose, especially the mahogany glass door book case, which displays, protects and lights up a variety of leather bound and other books inside. . . The small marble fireplace mantle top displays a cute, small bamboo stand which holds a white porcelain vase with a dried arrangement. Fresh flowers look nice in the center of the fireplace mantle, and off to the right a good looking blue and white oriental vase lamp with a black shade provides evening light. The floor is covered with a lovely antique oriental rug, and there is even an interesting fabric wall hanging which is displayed behind the mahogany bookcase. The top of the bookcase also showcases two bronze statues.There is a large turtle shell somewhat hidden in the fireplace opening. There is abundant natural light coming in from the left large window, and you can barely see that there is also a window seat there as well. This room is very pleasant, and has many interesting items to enjoy. I think this would be a great little room to sit in and talk or have a cup of tea or relax with a good book. Here is a great example of how using some colorful hand colored engravings from the 18th and 19th century, (the large one looks like a huge Audubon print quality wise), combined with some likewise colorful pillows on a plain, very comfortable looking sofa can brighten up and add some excitement to an otherwise rather ordinary sitting area. The wooden paneled walls provide a neutral background for the colorful artwork. The lampshades and pillows in red colors further ties the room together and adds some very nice pops of color. A good sized coffee table provides the perfect place for favorite books. . . Whenever hanging colored prints like this on the wall just be very careful to make sure that they get no direct sunlight from a window and even minimum indirect light from any large window or other source.
