I had a fantastic day yesterday. I felt well-rested (finally - after sleeping two full days trying to beat a virus), I painted “loose watercolour florals” with my daughter and finally they looked like flowers, I hung out with a friend who is in the thick of Mum life too, and I actually got to chat with my husband without kidlets demanding all of our attention. All of this happened as my phone buzzed with emails. • I just feel so dang grateful. • To everyone supporting me as an artist by liking and commenting on posts and sharing or purchasing my work, you are giving me the courage to continue creating and I am so very thankful. • The only two paintings left of the acrylics are the centre and bottom right. Of course my absolute favourite has not sold . It is the biggest and most time consuming of the bunch, but I just love its lines.

A couple of NEW works in progress for your Thursday! Anyone else think the full moon wrecks your sleep..? (No? Just my husband? Ok..) . The three of us were wide awake at 3AM, but I managed to pull off some painting time for the first time in probably over a month! It feels a bit unfamiliar.. nice, yet unfamiliar. I can’t stop painting botanical leaves. Here is a quick process video and tutorial for painting these colorful leaves Brush: @princetonbrush size 8 Neptune watercolor brush. I typically only use my size 2 or 4 round watercolor brush but decided to test out the size 8 (rebel) Paint: @winsorandnewton Opera Pink Gouache, Ultramarine Violet, Cobalt Blue, Winsor Violet Paper: @strathmoreart 140lb watercolor paper. 9x12 loose sheets These leaves are super easy and basically anyone can do them. The best way to get the look is to utilize the smallest part of your brush with a light hand for the stem and as you move your hand slowly push the brush down and quickly back up! Don’t be afraid to let the colors bleed together Pill out some paper and just practice a bunch of times You got this! #kelseymdesigns

I think I’m too busy juggling our almost 5 month old (?!) to really miss painting on a daily basis.. but when I do, it’s these simple landscapes I miss the most. . Luckily for this one, it’s getting sent off to a new home today! Someday I’ll paint with a similar sense of peace again.. maybe?!
