HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! Without an absolute doubt, being a mum has been the most difficult job I’ve ever had. I mean which other role has a person wearing so many hats at the same time - carer, nurturer, mentor, protector, cook, laundromat, meditator, tutor, taxi driver, well the list goes on and on!! It is also, however, the most rewarding job - seeing the kids growing up as well adjusted, good, well-mannered people is simply the best. Add to that the quiet moments where they come close just for the sake of it, or check up on me when I’m down or irritated at something or when they look out for one another, and I cannot help but say a word of thanks for these four blessings!! To my mum and all the other mums out there, Happy Mother’s Day - although what we do is most often unrecognised and unappreciated, it is still the greatest and most important job of all! I love old books, specially vintage cookery books.
This little book “ recipes from an Old Farmhouse” by Alison Uttley gives me glimpse how it must have been into the life my late aunt. How she used to cook and live in her young years in Ireland just after the war.
It is a charmingly out-of-the way booklet with not only recipes but also larded with practical advice and poverty in those distant days.
The drawings by Pauline Baynes are such a fun. .

Тыквенный суп
Ингредиенты:
300 гр тыквы
2 луковицы
1 плавленный сырок
2-3 зубчика чеснока
соль и специи
Приготовление:
1. тыкву почисть, нарезать кубиками.
2. почистить и порезать крупно лук.
3. лук и тыкву сначала обжарить, затем переложить в кастрюлю, залить водой (ее количество зависит от желаемой густоты. Советую залить так, чтобы на пару см вода была выше тыквы) и варить до того момента, пока тыква не станет мягкой. Посолить и поперчить.
4. в суп добавить плавленый сырок и подождать пока он полностью растворится. Должна получиться однородная масса.
5. остудить суп, взбить в блендере, при необходимости добавить воду, снова довести до кипения .
