________________________ Barnstable Cat Boat | Bellport, New York | c. 1921 • Designed by Carl Beetle in 1921, the Beetle Cat Boat is a wooden sailboat with a single sail on a single mast situated well forward into the bow of the boat. The Barnstable Cat Boat is the only true reproduction of Beetle’s original design with the only major difference being its fiberglass hull and deck • After its release to the public, the Beetle Cat Boat began to appear along the shores of New England including Cape Cod, on Buzzard’s Bay, on Narragansett Bay, at Nantucket Island, and on the Great South Bay of Long Island. Inspired by older cat boats that were used for fishing in shallow waters along Cape Cod, the Beetle Cat Boat was designed to withstand rough waters and cross over sand bars especially at low tide • Its resilient and innovative design soon led to a strong demand. Known at the time for making whaleboats, the Beetle family adopted similar whaleboat manufacturing techniques to mass-produce their popular Beetle Cat Boat. As its craftsmanship came to be greatly appreciated, the design soon made an important place for itself in racing • Today, it’s difficult to tell the difference between the Barnstable Cat Boat and its wooden predecessor. I’m in a new port almost every week these days! ⛵️⚓️ New England road trips are one of my favorite things to do with my husband, and I count myself so lucky I can pick up and go at a moments notice. We bounced around a few different states this weekend and per usual, we connected with our friends at @lexususa for some stylish wheels. This time, we drove the #LexusLS 500h. It’s a hybrid, so we burned hardly any gas, but still had that Black Panther grill. Back in NYC now and already packing for my next #OtterExpedition! #lexustestdrive
