We so often think of idols as something made of wood, metal, and/or stone, but we often forget that anything can be an idol if you put it in front of God. I used to be really bad at wasting an hour or more on social media after school in high school and “not having enough time” to read my Bible. I didn’t realize that I was making that an idol. I would get so frustrated with the children of Israel while reading the golden calf, but I was creating idols too — they just weren’t a physical representation. Balance is key. You don’t have to completely stop everything and only read and pray 24/7, but if you spend your free time on Instagram for an hour, read&pray for an hour. Don’t forget to make time for God — how will you know him if you don’t spend time with him?

‘ Some of God’s best yeses have come packaged to me as no’s I thank God for the times He didn’t give me what I asked for. Hindsight has made me grateful for divine denials’ . . I remember when I first saw this photo and it struck me how I dare try to come to God and hold on to the little I have for dear life, whilst failing to see the goodness that God has for me . . Isn’t funny how we can hold on with all our might to friends, things and people when God calls us to go oh so much higher in Him. . . God is a loving Father and when He asks us to trust Him He’s not doing so to cause us to suffer; He’s doing it because as a loving Father He knows us better than anyone else and He knows what full trust; reliance and dependence on Him will unlock in our lives. . . Sometimes it’s hard to trust God when we’ve had nothing but broken promises by those we deemed close to us, but when we look at God for who He is and not through the walls we’ve put up so no one can break our trust again, we begin to travel on a great journey with God, it takes time, it takes trust, and vulnerability but it will all be worth it. . . “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬
