Fin whales are also one of the few vertebrates that are asymmetrically colored, with the right and left sides of the body colored differently. The variations of color on the right side are one of the features that scientists use to identify individual whales of the species

Unfortunately, blue whales are only 1 of many species who have suffered, and continue to suffer at the hands of human related activities - both directly and indirectly! ♂️

According to the IUCN Red List, the global Blue Whale population decreased from at least 140,000 in 1926, to approximately 5000-15000 in 2019…This is approximately a 96% decrease in population…

Fortunately, it looks like their current population trend is increasing - which is obviously a positive! However, there’s still a lot of work to do and changes to make to ensure the protection and preservation of species and ecosystems!
