@zenartsupplies Journal Review time! *ad based on brand linking* . I was so excited when Zen Arts offered to send me a journal to trial! I have spent the last few weeks playing with it and testing spreads and I’m now ready to give my honest review. Swipe through the pictures for a brief overview or read on below! . First impressions - gorgeous cover and I love the patterned sides. They have a good range of colours but I went for orange this time! They feel good quality - both the cover and paper feel they could stand up to time. I tend to prefer hard cover journals because I know it gets knocked around when I take it everywhere. I would be concerned about damaging the pages or cover carrying this journal. It is a B5 journal, much larger than I’m used to, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. . Testing! I tested a variety of spreads in my usual style - for me this means watercolour. You might be able to see from my pen test that there is ghosting with pens but only bleedthrough with the sharpie. The test at the bottom was layering tombow markers to see how many times i could go over one area before it bled through. Unfortunately it started to bleed on the second pass. The first watercolour piece I did was this cover you see with the tent. I used the amount of water I would normally use in my leuchtturm and again unfortunately did get significant bleedthrough. When I tested the weekly spread I used absolute minimum water (you can see the paint is more streaky!) and the bleeding was more manageable, but I still did get some. Please note this journal is not advertised for watercolour, but I was asked to use the journal in my usual style . Conclusions: a gorgeously aesthetic journal best suited to people who would like a bit more space to work with. I would recommend it to people who are mainly using it for pen-based and potentially more minimal spreads, but not for people who like to use watercolour or later heavily in their journals! Here is a close-up of my July To Do list - I think the colours I used in this were my favourite! The soft teals neutralised with a little purple felt so velvety to paint with I like to paint out little swatches of the colours i’m planning on using in my paintings - you can see one just to the right of the page. I find it helps me to minimise the colours I’m using and helps the painting have a much more cohesive colour scheme. In saying that, sometimes I do just go “I want ALL the colour!!!!!!” so I’m not always that thoughtful! .
