Check ‘em both out for fabulous Maine love ♥️ * * * Do you ever wish you could go back to teach your “younger self” an important lesson like the true meaning of Strength? I do. I wish I could tell the scared, 22-year-old girl with the “suspicious abnormality” in her breast that she is more resilient than she knows. I want to explain to the 25-year-old, looking over pathology acronym-soup, like DCIS/Her2neu+, that cancer isn’t going to be her final story or that losing her 30-year-old sister to the same beast...wouldn’t be the darkest of moments. I would hug the 28-year-old survivor and reassure her that reconstruction and breast implants wouldn’t “normalize” life as a woman or as a new mom...and that it wouldn’t protect her infant daughter from the harsh truth of a cancer diagnosis or the ugliness of implant illness. As a breast cancer patient, forevermore... As a mother... As a survivor of depression and suicide... As a fighter of 19 autoimmune disorders... As a warrior with 60” of scars, a dozen surgeries under her belt, a hyster-Sister and now a fabulous flatty who’s fighting the medical implant industry... I’ve learned that “strength” isn’t a physical achievement or simply “mental toughness.” It is finding one’s self-worth and one’s voice. It’s thriving with the love and support of family and friends. And it’s the perseverance to get up when you fall...and fighting with hope when you can’t. I’ve learned that a warrior understands that suffering loss is NOT losing, that everyone in life “breaks,” and that the scars...visible OR not...are the true definition of beauty and strength. 22.4 . . Today was your due date. I never got to hold you but 3.5 years later I celebrate this day and honor you. Because of you I awakened and embraced my whole being, the one I had shut down most of my life. I took back my power and welcomed a deep healing journey, slowly peeling back layer by layer. . . You were my biggest inspiration. . You taught me how to love myself, truly and wholeheartedly. . You taught me a greater level of compassion and empathy. .
