Mother Mary guarded the front door of my grandma's house for a long as I can remember. I randomly thought if it a while back, and started asking about it. Mentioned it to my family, talked to an aunt and uncle about it, and then finally messaged another uncle asking if anyone knew if it was still in the house as I had started to dream about the statue! Yesterday, I took a trip out to the farm in rural North Dakota to retrieve said statue. . The statue had seen better days and was a bit dusty. I placed her into my big kitchen sink and as soon as the water hit the blue paint on the mantle, it washed down the drain. I had not intended to paint the statue, but it became pretty apparent I was going to need to. . I let the statue dry as I went to a craft store to pick out paint and get brushes small enough for the small details. After that, I had to decide in what order to paint all the sections to avoid getting darker paint on a lighter section. . After many hours, the painting was finally finished. She was beautiful! But then I got a zany idea that Mother Mary should have gold leaf detailing. I have never gold leafed anything, but decided to go for it. Mother Mary has finally been restored to her former (statue) glory. . We are so excited to have the Blessed Virgin at our front door now!
