Follow me on my Catholic journey! So prayer this week was rough, specifically praying the rosary. I was incredibly busy and spent a lot of nights out at hotels for work. Frankly, I really didn’t feel like praying. I was feeling lazy and not very spiritual at all. But... and this is new for me, I forced myself to man up and pray the rosary anyway! I’m so glad I did! I had some pretty big temptations that were starting to build up and prayer is the best medicine for them! I’m almost positive that I would have fallen back into sin if I hadn’t made the effort to pray. . . There will be times when prayer just feels awesome! You will want to pray and feel good while doing it. But it’s when you don’t want to, when you feel low and it feels pointless that prayer can be extremely effective! Overcoming struggle is what makes us better and helps perfect us. So the next time you don’t feel like praying make a specific point of making sure you take that time to pray, maybe even more so than usual! Don’t worry about it being perfect, just get though it with an honest heart. Because that’s when something really great is in the works! . . Follow me on my Catholic journey! So want to take a quick moment here on my run to talk about the balance of working out and the spiritual life. Also I realize I have two posts in a row with a statue of the Blessed Virgin. Sue me! . . Someone recently asked here on Instagram if running from temptation made them weak. Here’s my quick answer. NO! Sometimes I literally “run” from temptation. Physical exercise is very important in the development of a good spiritual life. You have to submit your body to work to improve and it’s directly analogous to the spiritual exercise we do! Plus especially with temptations with lust and particularly for men it helps direct the very natural energy that we have stored up towards something helpful. We have to channel it somewhere so put it towards making yourself physically stronger and agile. Then follow up with a rosary, and bro, you are set! . . So before or after your rosary today get out there and get some exercise in. It’ll help you think more clearly about your purpose and also help with temptation! Don’t be afraid to literally “run” away from the devil’s grasp! . . Today is the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is one of my favorite images of the Visitation and it is by @a_creative_almanac (be sure to check out her amazing illustrations!) . . “Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." . . And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. . . He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his children for ever." . .
