I had planned to do fun, creative shoot once a month, just for me and for the joy of making art itself. But since Feburary doesnt give me those last minute days to squeeze something in, I will share this one from January that I never posted, and we will pretend that there is only 11 months in the year. And we'll see what I come up with next! About this shoot: I've always been inspired by indoor malls. Especially the ones with palm trees. It's so random and fun! When I was little we would go to Cloverleaf Mall on the south side. I remember there being fountains and pink tiles all over the place. People would go there for food, the arcade, shopping for clothes-of course, and my favorite, to hang out with each other. There is a fantastic beauty in what malls, especially indoor ones, used to be. It was a place you could go to for any reason, and status didnt matter to the kids who just wanted a good time. There was something for everyone. But I think my favorite part has to be that despite the advertisement for consumerism kids went there to spend time with each other. Face to face contact. Talking to each other, old fashion flirting and dates. Self expression through funky styles and hair spray...not that I quite lived in that specific era, but I watch the movies. I wanted to bring that back, if only for an hour on a 20 degree day. I somehow got the best crew of kids to agree to hang out and model for me. I gave them no direction for clothing because these guys already had the exact look I knew I wanted. A 90s-mod-hipster vibe completely their own. This mall is 90% abandoned at this point, but I like to look at these images and believe that we went there for a really good time, and came back with success. Thank you Parker, Sara, Megan and Alec! Last couple of days in Disneyland and we’re back at work, creating those memories for you guys. Today we are creating ours. I never want to stop taking special proper photos of my kids. The bluebells, yellow fields, autumn leaves and conkers are part of their childhood memories. They came with me in the car for an hour while we searched around for the perfect field for a family shoot that I’ve got next week.
