There was a phase in my life when I not only questioned the existence of God but had become , a borderline atheist to be honest . No it was not a rebellious phase but a trough where nothing was going my way ( the way I wanted things to be ). My mother was not really worried as she knew the minute I would bounce back so would my faith. Now that I am a parent I often wonder how do I raise a child who continues to believe in the supreme power despite obstacles , misfortunes and depression . 1) Praying daily - yes a simple reciting of any prayer after bath might be a routine for us but when the child sees you do it everyday , they tend to copy you . Now Advay joins his hand when he sees us lighting the lamp for some time his attention span is not much but I would still consider this a positive start. 2) There was a time I used to believe that whatever happens happens for good ( Jo hota hai ache ke liye hota hai ) and would not reattempt anything after failing the first time and consider it as a sign from God that my chosen path was not meant for me . That is Definitely not true it's better to teach our kids that God helps those who help themselves . 3) Mythological stories are a definite help in bringing them a step closer to the almighty. Amar chitra katha , Panchatantra can be stepping Stones before you move on to the Mahabharata and Ramayana . The thing I love most about these stories is that even the avatars make mistakes , no one is perfect and that is the message we need to teach our kids. More in comments ! It is never too late to start or even if you have fallen off the wagon it is not a problem . God will always welcome you with open arms .
