It’s been two and a half months since I’ve completed a new refashion- but this one is finished! This piece was originally shorts, top and jacket all attached, and it had some major sun damage on the shoulders and holes on the side. . . This refashion was a huge experiment. I had no idea if it would work out but I love the look of the end result! While it looks cute in photos, I have to admit, it’s far from perfect. It’s a little overworked & definitely has its flaws. But after a few completely failed refashions, I’m happy to be starting to get back into a groove. Refashioning has taught me so much about being a seamstress- and as challenging as the projects can be, I absolutely love transforming pieces! . . Have you been playing with any fun kinds of #wardrobemagic lately? My girl @alissa_etc is no stranger to closet confoundables and totally inspired me . For today’s #colormycloset challenge, I had to wear orange but didn’t really have anything that worked except a burnt orange body con dress that doesn’t flatter my shape… until you pop a skirt over it and call it a shirt, that is! ✨. . This little exploration into wardrobe wizardry actually worked out in everyone’s favor because it makes my skirt fit better, and finds a use for a dress I might otherwise have tossed. Both items were saved from donation thanks to this look! #colormycloset Day 3: ORANGE . . . I almost didn’t take pics today because of some health and pain issues, but I really didn’t want to let that stop me because I was so excited to share these pants! It’s also terrible and cloudy outside so there is next to no light in my bedroom. But I think we managed with this vintage, grainy vibe. These pants are one of my FAVORITE secondhand finds. Can you believe its already time for another #wellnesswendesday check in? I’m amazed at how quickly time has flown this year! Which underlines the importance of awareness and self grace . This week, I’m definitely not as stressed but still feeling overwhelmed. Right now, I’m finding it hard to keep up with the 32904834 modes of communication that come along with living in 2019. Phone calls, text messages, emails, voicemails all seem to pile up unnoticed while I try to stay focused on work, leaving people without replies for days at a time. Thankfully my friends and loved ones are endlessly understanding and kind but I still hate it. It’s definitely something I’m working on, but it’s easy to feel like I’m never getting better . a rainy monday look. these are two of my favorite second-hand items: an @elizsuzann linen tunic I bought from @selltradees , which has now been absorbed into @selltradeslowfashion (they will be sorely missed and it is amazing how much work the moderators put into running that page!)—and @kitandace leggings I got from our local consignment boutique @thegoldenfigresale . if you are recently entering the slow fashion/ethical fashion/sustainable fashion world, you may notice so many of the clothing silhouettes look this way. Flowy, oversized, boxy, etc. I love a good loose-fitting moment, but I do understand it may not be for everyone. I think I even want to see more variety of shapes from my own closet, so I’m thinking about experimenting with this through the rest of the summer and into fall. My number one tip if you want to shop sustainably but aren’t into boxy clothes is to shop second-hand. I’ve said it before, but you can find literally anything through various consignment apps and Instagram accounts. It takes more time to sift through everything, but if you are committed to the slow fashion mindset, putting a little more effort into clothing selection will probably come easily for you!
