(1/2) Last week, my husband and I were at @climatereality leadership training, with the inspirational @algore and many, incredible activists and positive change-makers - and while strictly speaking this **isn’t** their official tagline, it’s totally what they mean, ammiright? I’m not sure I can begin to tell you how inspirational and motivating I found the whole experience - yet I will certainly try! . What began with a focus on modern science and the cause and effect of the climate emergency, quickly shifted gears into something much more substantial, and near and dear to my heart: the people of climate change, the faces of climate inaction, and the solutions to fix the problems. . As the climate emergency continues to heat up (literally) we are beginning to see a much-needed disturbance in the force of science, politics and economics. Every day it becomes abundantly clear that to fix this shit up, we need to fix “democracy” and accept the fact that the existing model is simply not working. . It’s no secret that the world’s oldest civilisations, Indigenous people, and First Nations people are the ones most-adversely affected by the climate emergency, even though they were clearly the least to contribute to it. Torres Strait, on the Northern tip of Australia, is seeing the devastation of our climate inaction every single day. The Dead Sea is shrinking at a rate of around four feet each year. The Maldives, the lowest-lying country in the world, risks vanishing entirely as climbing tides are already displacing locals. . There is a new vision defining how we can preserve a viable ecosystem for humankind, and how we get there. The vision begins with science - and then it takes flight via WE THE PEOPLE! Incremental change is not enough. Not even close! We need to uproot the systems in place and implement world-wide change in economical, political and societal behaviours and models, i.e. fundamental, systematic change! .

It’s so strange to imagine a simple plastic shopping bag - one you’ve used a thousand times - and then comprehend all the utter chaos it causes. For example, did you know plastic bags are one of the biggest contributors to the huge amount of plastic found in the Pacific Ocean (known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch) which is estimated to be double the size of Hawaii!?! What in the actual f__k! . And you know this symbol - ♻️ - the one we all see on plastic, and think that it means it’s recyclable? Well I hate to tell you this guys, but it actually doesn’t necessarily mean that at all - it **can** mean recycle, or it can simply be indicating the grade and safety of that particular plastic (i.e. this is mostly just greenwashing, which is hella disappointing, right?) . Yet fear not, sweet people! Because I have a secret . . . you ready? . . . we don’t have to use plastic bags! Taa-daa! There are so many good alternatives to plastic bags - like, for example, what the boys are fighting over here (not the baguettes, silly, the thing the baguettes are in!). You all know my love affair with the #giraffe (see kissing videos below). Seriously, who doesn’t love them?...they’re iconic! But I’m not sure we love them enough because in just 15 years populations have dropped by 40% according to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation @giraffe_conservation That’s pretty staggering, and heartbreaking. What would our world be like without #giraffes? Fortunately, places like #giraffemanor (where I am at in this photo) and @nrdc_org are doing things to help. For the upcoming Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species conference these organizations are asking you to send the leaders at this conference a clear message. So, if you have a moment google “NRDC Giraffes need protection now” and you’ll see where you can send them a message. If the giraffes go, I’ll be so over Homo (not so sapient) sapiens!
