I mean COME ON ...these 1st grade polar bears got me feeling all warm and fuzzy. Aren’t they just adorable Bears are white chalk on black paper (because polar bears have black skin). And background is watercolor with salt to look like northern lights. These are such a great addition to 1st grade Arctic animal unit. Quick lesson to hang up for winter before I move on to Valentines. #elementaryartteacher #artteachersofinstagram #artteachers #polarbearart #collaborativelearning #artteacherlife #doubleloadedpaint
If anyone needs me I’ll be gluing approximately 700 paper feathers together so excited to see our @kelseymontagueart wing mural come to life! .

Currently obsessed with how much kids love the experience of painting on walls. So much happening in these pictures: collaboration, cooperation, science (gravity—ie dripping paint, lol), color spectrum, weather, etc. These are some super 2nd graders working on the rainbow wall. It’s been a pretty spontaneous, generally unplanned and wonderful addition to the classroom. Kids enjoy creating it and having such a fun wall in our creative environment. I want more of what’s happening here alll over the place. Can we have all my classes painting the bulletin boards in the hallways?! Holy wow.
I asked a friend @Krystallynne to work with me on some portraiture because I value the nakedness of her style.
I learned so much from this experience. The relationship I have to my face, my body, my nose, my eyes, my legs. My age. My expectations of beauty because of what I learn from magazines and films and television.
What is possible when I add layers of clothing and jewelry and my hair or makeup. The transformation that occurs. How it anchors me, shows another dimension of me, and perhaps hides something else.
I told Krystallynne I felt naked in the black and white photos.
She said, uh oh, is that a bad thing?
I said it’s very uncomfortable but that’s why I came to you. And how uncomfortable it is, is what’s wrong with the world.
It can feel like some of us focus on self esteem and affirmations. That others focus on social justice. Maybe others the invisible and esoteric.
To me these are the same motion. An exercise in suturing, reorganizing concepts that are untrue, finding meaning and wholeness in our experience. Reconnecting with precolonial wisdom.
Hurt people hurt people. Fractured people create fractured visions.
Healed people hold people to heal themselves. Make space For safety in the discomfort that’s required for true growth or leaps in perception.
Let’s learn to feel like we are beautiful natural creatures. That nothing is wrong with us. And see how we relate to one another from that space.
How we receive from others when they share their opinions and feelings and stories.
How we learn to listen.

It’s here: my first @teacherspayteachers resource! So many people loved my writing boot camp posts and templates, I created blank sets for you all to use! My students LOVED having boot camp, and even if they don’t admit, the extra jumping jacks got their brains going! What questions do you have about implementing them in your room? Let me know below, then head to the link in my bio to check it out!
