I always get tons of questions about this little table, so I thought I’d use this post to answer some of the most common ones. . . I use this table as my guided reading table/desk. Class sizes are really small at my school, so I rarely have more than three students in a reading group. . . I got the table from another teacher after my first year of teaching. It had been at my school for years, and is just a regular school table with a wooden surface and black metal legs. . . I didn’t like the look of the brown tabletop, so I covered it with black contact paper and put black electrical tape around the edge. The black metal legs had also begun to rust, so I sprayed them with black matte spray paint. . . After one year, I added the phrase “work hard, be nice” to the table. The phrase is actually part of a doodle font from @aprimarykindoflife called APL Positive Pants. I made the decal out of vinyl using my Silhouette Cameo and it has lasted two years with minimal peeling. . . The contact paper has lasted for three years but probably needs to be redone this summer because small areas have just started peeling this year. I may add another vinyl quote once I re-cover the table, although I’m not sure what it will be yet. If you have any suggestions (or any other questions), let me know in the comments!

Most of my Insta scrolling right now has me bursting with ideas for next year. THIS. @headoverheelsforteaching has this gorgeous bulletin board in her classroom and I thought this would be such a cool activity to do with Catcher! At the end of the year, I give students the option to create memes about our school year and class; I show them their memes on the last day of school. Students always take this opportunity to roast me, which I think is just so funny! Building community and relationships until the very last day is so important.
