Do you know all those cute greeting cards you find in the @target Dollar Spot • I use them during my parent informational meeting! I ask parents to write a note to their child that will be waiting for them on their desks on the first day of school. For any students whose parents don’t attend the meeting, I write them cards myself.✏️ • I love seeing their excited faces when they read the notes. Have you read this book? It’s a super fun one for back to school! It’s written like a ‘how-to’ book with different things kids can do or “teach” the teacher to get ready when school starts!⁠ *⁠ I suggest using it as a mentor text to teaching ‘how-to’ writing. Kids could come up with an idea of something they are good at and want their teacher to learn or something they want to help them with. Then they could write it in 4 simple steps (first, then, next, finally). When you go into your classroom to do all the things but instead you just clean your closet lol. I really need to make a priority list but organizing is my jam especially with all these amazing storage bins. I can’t wait to get the other half done because my art supplies, sensory bin materials and dramatic play things are alllll over the place. I know this may sound silly to some to be doing this but I also know it’s going to save me tons of time this upcoming year when I am trying to find things and plan! I’m loving the SGS border AND this awesome resource from @thetexasteacher14! @2ndstateofmind ❤️ Y’all this is a major game changer! I found these on tpt from @thetexasteacher14 and fell in love. I printed, laminated, and added a thin magnet on the back of them to stick to the board easily. I made them last summer and unfortunately ended up in a classroom that didn’t have a magnetic board (just my luck right). I moved classrooms this year and now I have a legit white board!!! I am finally bringing them out this year! I’m thinking about making this into a classroom job. At the beginning of every school year, my team and I have an important conversation about their purpose in this class. I tell them that no one in this class is average. No one. They are all in here because they are AMAZING! INCREDIBLE! And that there is greatness inside every single one of them! I never want my students to feel average or that they aren’t special. Getting them in this mindset from the beginning sets the tone for the rest of the year. Stressing that they are ‘not here to be average they are here to be incredible’ helps me keep my expectations high in my class and I reference it often. A quick example of this: if only 22 out of 24 teammates participate in a call and response, I say “that was average. And we’re here to be....” they fill in the blank with “incredible” and once we do it again, all 24 participate. This quote also relates to SO MANY other things in my classroom (academics, behavior... everything!) We MUST make sure these kids know that we GENUINELY believe in their potential for success. What are some ways you get your students to believe that they are INCREDIBLE?
