I love this quick video that Ofc. @craighanaumi posted. As he stated, aside from punches, headlocks are one of the most common behaviors in a fight. Adding in the gear definitely makes it more difficult and very few people know how to defend or get out of one. Coming from a wrestling background, it would be easier to show you some techniques to get out of a headlock in video form, but for now here are few written down in the meantime. I love to use momentum/movement to get out of a headlock. Almost every Joe-Schmo you come across will have the instinct to put you in a headlock when he's able to get close enough. It's natural instinct. When this happens, keep your head up so he can't lock it in and if he starts to get it, roll through it before it's locked in. Remember it's about momentum. When you are placed in a headlock, your center of gravity will be lower than theirs. Keep pushing in different directions to keep them adjusting and not able to focus fully on hurting you. If he's leaning forward, pop your leg in front of his body and roll with him. Same goes if he's leaning back, place your leg behind him, trip and roll to regain the advantage. In this video, Ofc. @craighanaumi 's attacker had a front headlock with no arm locked in (makes it easier to get out of). The attackers head was leaning forward which led to the opening for a front step through and using the attackers momentum, Ofc. Hanaumi rolled with him right into the top mount and regained control. Finished off with what I call a crowbar to break the attackers grip. Great video @craighanaumi !

I want to show some love to this true bad-a*s from an incident this past April. Ofc. Cammarn was dispatched to a call of fights in progress and possible shots fired. Once he got off, he witnessed a man assaulting a woman. Once the actor saw Ofc. Cammarn, he immediately approached him in an aggressive manner and ignored the officers orders to put his hands behind his back. The actor pulled away taking both of them to the ground and the fight in this video ensued. Surrounded by a bunch of punks who rather watch a man beat up on a women then have a cop come help her, he was kicked, punched, and pulled by all sides. Even with this absolutely scarey situation going on, Ofc. Cammarn continued to try to finish his arrest. The actor did get up and run but Ofc. Cammarn did not miss a beat and got up and caught him 1 block away. This is why I preach health and fitness so much. This is the dangers you can face at anytime. He was confident in his ability and able to make a violent arrest without escalating his use of force. Ofc. Cammarn, you are a true bad-a*s and a great example for someone who truly belongs on this job.
