Entender os vinhos franceses requer um bocado de estudo... Diferentemente dos vinhos do Novo Mundo (América do Sul, EUA, Austrália, Nova Zelândia, etc...) não é comum virem indicadas as uvas usadas. Então como saber? Conhecendo um pouco sobre as regiões em que são produzidos. ‘Ah então é fácil!’ Mais ou menos, pois dentro da Região há sub-regiões. E isso influi consideravelmente. Vamos pegar o Vale do Ródano como exemplo. Podemos dividir o Ródano em duas regiões. Norte e Sul. No Norte temos vinhos produzidos com Syrah. No Sul, além de Syrah, é comumente usada a Grenache, podendo ainda ser acrescentadas outras uvas (Mourvedre, formando o GSM, ou se chegarmos em Chateaunef-du-Pape você pode encontrar vinhos com até 13 castas distintas). A dificuldade não para por aí! Dentro do Ródano temos denominações específicas, como Hermitage, Crozes Hermitage e Cote Rotie, ao norte, e Chateaunef e Cotes du Rhone, ao Sul (Cotes du Rhone é uma denominação mais genérica e pode ser usada no Norte também, mas normalmente isso não ocorre, pois costumam utilizar as denominações mais específicas). E isso que estamos falando só de tintos... Em resumo, um pouco de geografia e memória vão ser necessárias pra saber ao certo o que se está prestes a desenrolhar. E isso torna tudo mais divertido e encantador, pois quanto mais estudamos mais percebemos que ainda falta muito a aprender. Não tá a fim de estudar tudo isso? Sem problemas, abra uma garrafa e aproveite o prazer que a degustação dela proporciona. Foi assim que fizemos com esse Reserve De Bonpas, Cotes-Du-Rhône, corte típico de Grenache, Syrah e Mouvedre. Château des Tours Côtes du Rhône Réserve 2009 I’m a big fan of Emmanuel Reynaud’s style. This 2009 is at its best : a lot of fruit, spicy, solar and elegant.

For #TuesdayTasting, I’m taking a break from Italy and I’m stepping into France with this @m_chapoutier Belleruche Côtes-du-Rhône 2017. ~ Maison M. Chapoutier has been nurturing its vineyards and terroir since 1808. "Fac & Spera", do and hope, is the motto and the philosophy applied to winemaking. The vineyards of the red Côtes du Rhône “Belleruche” covers four areas (Drôme, Vaucluse, Gard and Ardèche) on different soils (clay and calcareous alluvial deposit terraces, clay, etc.) giving a different kind of complexity to the wine. The wine is made mainly of Grenache and Syrah. ~ The wine was garnet red with a hint of purple, showing long legs on the glass. It had a full nose of red fruit, pepper, and slight earth. Lots of red fruit on the palate – cherry, blackberry, and raspberry – with nice tannins. A great value, since you can find it online for $14.99.
