Carbohydrates (carbs) are an essential energy source, and vital for good health. When we eat carbohydrates, our body converts them into glycogen (sugar) supplying the energy we require for proper body function. The problem is many good carbs have been labeled bad and many fad diets recommend they be eliminated to lose weight, reduce fat, and improve lean mass. This potentially sets you up for nutrient deficiencies, reduced energy, and can impair exercise performance.
Leaving out this important macronutrient from daily food intake is not the answer to losing weight or achieving a lean body. According to research, you may experience side effects as your body tries to make up for the sudden lack of fuel.
Side effects of severe carb restriction can include dizziness, fatigue, nausea, weakness, and depression along with more serious health risks.
In order to maintain good health and achieve your fitness goals, understanding the difference between good vs. bad carbs will be important. Once you know how to select the right carbohydrates, you will feel comfortable including them to support a healthy lifestyle .

Tempeh bowl anyone? Wasn’t sure what to have for dinner soo I did a bit of improv, came out with this and was pleasantly surprised :)). Cashew tempeh recipe
1.5 tbsp tamari
1 tbsp cashew butter (or any other nut/seed butter of your choice)
1 tsp garlic paste (or 1 clove garlic, minced)
2 tbsp water
100g tempeh, chopped into strips
Stir together the tamari, cashew butter, garlic paste and water. Coat the tofu strips in the sauce and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side.

Cannelloni de beringela com creme verde de tofu (leva espinafres e caju) em molho de tomate e manjericão Polvilhado com amêndoa laminada (preferencialmente tostada previamente, sugestão do @antonio_makuma) e folhas de manjericão bem fresquinhas.
Obrigada à minha querida @sofia.bp.rodrigues por ter partilhado a receita original comigo (que podem encontrar no site cookidoo.pt, pesquisando por “Canelones de beringela com creme de salmão e espinafres”) ☺️ Substituí o salmão por 250g de tofu; o mel por geleia de agave; e adicionei pimento vermelho ao molho de tomate. Fica uma delícia
Caso não apreciem tofu, substituam-no por cogumelos ou até leguminosas do vosso agrado (feijão, grão-de-bico, lentilhas).
Creme verde de tofu:
Colocar no copo (do processador) 100g de caju, 3 dentes de alho, 150g de espinafres, 100ml de bebida de amêndoa, 2csp de sumo de limão e uma pitada de sal. Triturar (se usarem bimby: 30seg/Vel 7). Esmaguem, com as mãos, 250g de tofu e envolvam-no neste creme (recheio do cannelloni).
