Fortunately, out of nowhere, something else came to mind: “Yeah, well, whatever!” Deep inside, something felt very wrong about this whole affirmation. But something came up! Something I had never given any attention before, some kind of guidance, or call it confidence: “There would either be THE guy or NO guy.” After all, in my reality, I saw absolutely no reason why I would have to rush on the first comer. Still, these words hurt me! I was only a teenager, and when you hear this from your close surroundings, your “loved ones,” your friends, family, and even total strangers, believe me, you are not ready! - Who, affected by a disability, has never had to face similar and pointless statements? - The paradox about these harsh declarations is that people, who come up with them, often are convinced of doing you a ”favor” by being “protective.” It never occurs to them that their remarks can be offensive, violent, unfounded, and even completely absurd. Wouldn’t they feel patronized or offended hearing their own words for themselves? - What I know today is that I'm forever grateful for not falling into the trap of believing such poorly-thought, narrow-minded “advise.“ From the moment I first noticed people around me “feared“ for my future as a “disabled“ woman until the day I met “THE“ guy a lot happened (emotionally speaking). Both Tom and I fall under the invisible disability bracket. To look at us we appear “normal” and appear to function. Please note the word appear. We both have support needs. Although we have different disabilities at times the level of support needed be similar. While we don’t fall into the severe disability side as in we don’t need someone to help toilet, wash or feed either us, we both still need different levels & types of support to be able to live as independently as possible. ⁣ ⁣ The problem is things are not designed or geared towards milder support needs. I can only speak from my experiences in this country (UK) My life has been filled with similar situations when trying to access support systems in all aspects of life like education, medical and others I’ve been met with shut doors and comments “you’re very self aware, keep doing what you’re doing” “you’re achieving high grades so just carry on” or “you don’t fit the criteria for what we offer” and the worst “you seem to be coping well so due to stretched and limited services we need to offer them to to people who need it.” ⁣ I don’t want to take anything at all away from those people, I want to highlight the case that ALL support needs are important on an individual level whether classified as mild or severe, and services should most importantly see that & reflect that. It’s not okay as it is currently is and highlights just how biased/narrow minded institutional support systems can be. We shouldn’t need to be at breaking point/rock bottom for our needs to be understood/met. Just because some people seem to cope or manage things to an okayish level does not mean they don’t need support. ⁣ ⁣ All support needs no matter how severe or “mild” they ARE ALL STILL support needs. I don’t have the answers and I know majority of it comes down to funding etc but today I just want to say to all the people out there who feel their needs are not “bad enough” to seek support, they are and don’t be afraid to keep asking and keep pushing for it because you are not any less deserving of it just because it looks different to other disability needs. All needs matter.

ℝ , , ℚ, ℕ ℝ.❤️ We all face obstacles in our life. Each one of us has our own unique challenges. The Reality for Clyde is that he has Limited vision. We believe he can see about 6 inches in front of him. That is why you see him bump into things quite often because he does not notice them until they are directly in front of him. This is a daily challenge. It’s unique to Clyde and has nothing to do with his CH diagnosis. He continues on the matter how many times he bumps into things or loses his balance. Because he is Amazing! . ~ You will also notice his front legs bend inward at his wrists. It looks painful but it is more uncomfortable than painful. Because it has happened so gradually since he has been a puppy. He had custom braces made with the help of Our Clyde tribe! . We are trying those out this weekend. This will provide him much more stability and it will make him much more comfortable.
