"As a result of the psychological stress and boredom that comes from living in a tank, captive #dolphins are sometimes seen exhibiting stereotypic behavior, which is also commonly referred to as "zoochosis." These behaviors are usually repetitive and don't appear to have any particular function. Frequently seen examples are bar biting, logging (floating motionless), lying on the bottom of their tank, repeatedly beaching themselves on slideouts, self-mutilation, regurgitation, and aggression towards other animals to name a few. An inspection of the “Whale Prison” conducted on March 1st has revealed that the health of the 97 cetaceans currently held at the facility is continuing to rapidly deteriorate. Veterinarians have discovered more lesions, dark blotches, and other skin disorders on the surviving animals which appear to be signs of worsening fungal, bacterial, and viral infections. On top of that, at least one of the orcas has missing and fractured teeth.
.
According to Dr. Tatyana Denisenko, the unhealthy state of these whales is a direct result of their adverse living conditions which are characterised by poor sanitation, poor water quality, sources of stress and the presence of significant numbers of microorganisms of anthropogenic origin. Experts warned that the limitations of space and overcrowding will contribute to the further spread of infections and illnesses throughout the facility. One of the orcas has lesions along its spinal cord and around its blowhole, while another has visible sores and ulcers on its melon and rostrum. According to researcher Vera Krasnova, the belugas are covered in scattered dark spots, hard rounded nodules, and dark grey areas of focal dermatitis with a discernible black rim or raised edges. All of these skin changes are clearly infectious in nature. It was also noted that the youngest orca, Kirill, who appeared to suffering from frostbite and pneumonia, was missing. While the captors are claiming that he escaped from his pen last month, it is more likely that he perished. Members of the public coalition have no doubt that Kirill died.
.
A day after the inspection, “Whale Prison” guards destroyed a REN-TV drone, attacked and assaulted journalists, and attempted to take their phones away. This is not the first time an incident like this has happened. In July 2018, “Ocean Friends” exposed a group of orca capturers and as a result, they were shot at, their equipment was stolen, and their camp was destroyed. These incidents show exactly how money hungry and desperate these people are to keep the cetacean captivity industry alive. Makes you wonder what they’re trying to hide.

Nami was an orca who was captured in Taiji in 1985 along with a male named Goru, the two were transferred to the Taiji Whaling Museum immediately after. One month after capture Goru was sent to Nanki Adventure World where he would spend 19 years in their tanks before succumbing to Pneumonia in 2005
Nami remained at Taiji Whaling Museum for 24 years in a enclosed Seapen area, until June 2010 where she was sent to Port of Nagyoa Aquarium for breeding purposes. The Trainers never entered the water with Nami due to her Dominating personality. She was the only Orca in her habitat, she did, however, became close with some of the Bottlenose Tank mates she lived with. In late December 2010, Nami began showing signs of Discomfort and illness, she was kept in the med pool until January 11th, where she passed away.
Autopsy results revealed she had 81 kilos, or 180 lbs of stone in her stomach. The facility announced that Nami died from Fungal Bacterial Pneumonia, Stomach Ulcers, Myocardial Fibrosis, Heart Failure and Chronic Colitis after swallowing the stones over the course of many years at the Taiji Whale Museum where she was on public display in part of a natural cove.

Nami's story is one of 1000s of the Dolphins who had to suffer the grasp of Taiji's hand. The season for Dolphin Drives in Taiji ended March 1st. Over 700 hundred dolphins were captured or killed in the cove this year. The season goes from September 1st - March 1st. The story is not over yet...
