***possible trigger*** I've talked to a few ladies in the last little while about challenges regarding fertility, miscarriage, stillbirths, and any other sort of loss. I feel compelled to share this, because you should know you're never alone. But more than that, you shouldn't feel that you need to keep any of this a secret. It shouldn't be taboo. I highly encourage everyone to watch the video in the website #donttalkaboutthebaby because, well, it's really touching and empowering. Many people already have asked me when Aaron and I are having another kid. After this week, we are pretty certain that we want to try next year when he's done with grad school. My point in telling you this is the fact that INFERTILITY is possible. I'm worried that since we are actually going to "try" for our first kid, (since it's no secret that we didn't try for Cadence) that we will struggle with conceiving. At that point, I'll probably be a little bit embarrassed, sad, and ashamed of my body if it takes a little longer than I expected to conceive. But I think I'll share my journey, so that I don't feel alone. Ladies, (and gents, since this affects everyone) I will say it again -- YOU ARE NOT ALONE. please please PLEASE, seek support from your family and friends. If you believe in a higher power, seek their guidance as well. But the only way to make something less "taboo" is to talk about it more. Tonight I went to the NYC screening of @dont_talk_about_the_baby. This documentary was moving beyond words. The women who put it together (@kcg1712) did so with such grace and knowledge. This is a deeply whispered, almost silent topic and their work brings such a voice to so many who have experienced infertility and/or loss. We need to be talking about this. And not just when it happens. We need to be having the conversation before pregnancy, during sexual education. We need to be talking about this during pregnancy, and even after birth. Women need more knowledge so they don’t feel so alone. Women and families need more resources. Families need to know that their babies, their journeys happened and they mattered. We need to do better as a society not to continue to let this subject fall silent. Please watch this documentary.
