This is for the families who are hurting inside, and holding each other in anguish and trying to find a reason for their suffering. This is for the friends who don’t know what to say, who have been pushed away and are feeling helpless. The grandparents who endure the agonising job of comforting their children who are so consumed with grief, they wonder if their lives will ever return to a semblance of normality. This is my precious Archie. Our soldier. Our greatest blessing. A miracle gifted to us in the form of an angel. A gift that we never predicted to be an outcome of such trauma. The gift that gave us life, he gave us his life so that we may be lifted to a higher good. To find light and love in hardship, to become strong in the face of adversity, to become one in the pursuit of fearlessness. I admire these photos, the memories I have stroking his soft skin, kissing his sweet cheeks and holding his little hands. Never did I expect to be so close to meeting you only to be told your heart had stopped beating. Never did I expect I’d loose you... . For anyone experiencing loss, you are not alone in this journey. ++ TRIGGER WARNING (consent approved) ++ Dear Parker, I’ve wanted to write something sooner but found myself stuck on empty words. I’d type paragraphs, to have them deleted, re-written and then erased again. I was exposed to a grief like none other and I just couldn’t find the words to put down on paper. But I’m here, because I owe it to you. People should remember your name, speak it and know that you made someone a first time parent. You are 1 in 6 stillborns, that die every day in Australia – a number too taboo for most people to comprehend. A midnight call was all it took to change my outlook in life and all envisions of a newborn shoot at home, was to be replaced with the hospitals 4 walls. As the phone cut out, I sat there shocked and in utter disbelief. I wont lie – I had questions of doubt if I was capable of doing this and able to hold back emotions? Yes and No. I am human afterall. I’ve taken lots of photos in my lifetime but nothing compares to the ones I took on that day I met you. A cute button nose, chubby cheeks and the two most adoring parents holding you. I know you won’t be far. You’ll be watching over mummy and daddy and visiting them in their dreams. In those dreams you’ll grow old with them and show what a cheeky boy you’ll be. Oh little one – you left a ripple of love for those that you touched. You are perfect Parker. “Too perfect” I hear whispered as I walk out the doors. Hurry now, I can hear her calling out your name - you mustn’t let mummy wait. Till we meet again. Love, Aunty Thu
