DINO POINTILLISM • This came out even cooler than we hoped! In honor of this week’s #steamkidschallenge theme of dots, we set Spike up to do some pointillist art. Dad designed and cut some pointillist dinosaur stencils for spike to paint over. We did a T-Rex, a pterodactyl, and a triceratops, as well as a volcano, but the T-Rex definitely came out the best! Spike was in a bad mood when we got home today, but cheered up when we started painting. • For anyone unfamiliar with pointillism, it’s an art technique that uses colorful dots to create an image. We used Photoshop and a vinyl cutter to create our stencil, but you could use a craft hole punch or a utility knife for a similar effect. The stencils are made out of card stock and the paint used is washable Crayola. We only put out primary colors this time to keep everything from turning brown! GIANT EASTER EGG PAINTING Need a fun process art Easter activity? Here is a super fun and simple to set up activity where we painted our very own GIANT Easter egg! All you need is paint, brushes, a marker and a giant piece of kraft paper. Recently on our Facebook page I shared this video of my 15 month old doing this quick pom pom whisk activity and it took off so sharing here as well! Many liked the easy set up and fine motor/sensory appeal of this baby activity.. . A few notes: 1) always supervise baby when doing activities like these 2) some mentioned concern about the size of Pom Poms. Watch the video to the end where we show you can also use cut up sponges, baby socks, straws, pipe cleaners, small blocks. 3) Dash does put things in his mouth but he loves putting objects in and out of containers so it was interesting to see him work on transferring from the start here. Setting up a small bowl helps! Had he been more interested in eating the Pom Poms we would have stopped immediately. You know your baby best! 4) the type of whisk matters! EASTER EGG BATH We needed this one today. Or I really needed it. Threenager mood on high alert and the twins on a tight feeding schedule necessitated a quick and clean activity (literally).
