I love Yung Pueblo. His book inwards is a must read for me. He believes meditation can heal so many emotional and physical ailments. We have to learn to be still in order to know and be comfortable with ourselves. Too often in recovery I see people battling this disease alone due to that fact that their family and friends have abandoned them. In all other cases when a loved one is suffering we tend to offer love and comfort. However, when it comes to the disease of addiction the stigma has forced us to shun our loved ones and make them feel as if they’re “inhumane.” . . . Sam is someone I’ve know for a long time. When I seen her post about being 20 months clean I reached out to say congrats and asked how she was doing. Her response (read below) is the reason we decided to reach out and offer our assistance. ⬇️ . . . She told me she was recovering from an opiate addiction raising two kids all on her own. The kids father is currently serving time in jail. All of her family lives in Florida. She said she’s currently not working due to that fact that she just got housing with the Philadelphia Housing Authority because they were homeless for such a long time. During the day she takes her kids to daycare and heads off to Philadelphia Community College as she pursues her dream of earning her degree. She continued “it’s not much but we have our own place and it’s a start.” . . . I was inspired and truly moved by her story and more specifically her gratefulness. When I initially asked how I could help she persisted to tell me that she was ok and basically “thanks but no thanks.” I told her she didn’t have a choice and after about a month she finally gave in. She told me that she wanted to make her kids room more kid friendly. So we showed up and did just that. . . . We arrived on Sunday with toys of all sorts. Paw patrol, Avengers, incredibles, bath towels, books, night lamps, posters, blankets, pillow cases and much more. One of our sponsors @roseannshairstudio provided crayons, coloring books, candy, jump ropes, markers and much more. . . . ❤️ In addition to transforming her kids room, we also wrote Sam a check that will cover her rent for the next 3 months. Samantha you are amazing, your story is amazing and it will prove to be so inspirational to so many others in similar situations. You are loved, as we always say “it’s only up from here”
