It’s been 8 years since we bought what would become 5R Farm. One of the projects I’m the most proud of is our garden, because it’s a project that my husband and I have worked on together over the years to get it just right. One week from today will be our first official day in our new farm shop/workshop space!! (Swipe to see the Beautiful entryway.❤️). Getting this space has been so much more work and taken up so much more mental space then I was anticipating ( oh ya, and more money ), but it’s all starting to unfold and happen! I took the girls down to weed the garden beds today, and we’ll be planting flowers and herbs this week. Our shop will host weekly workshops like Homeschool classes and support groups, Holy yoga classes, blessingways, bible studies, and potlucks. It will house our little vintage/antique/farm shop, and I’m sure we’ll find more creative ways to use it! Our local community does not currently have anything like this, so we are hopeful it blesses our neighbors and friends! ❤️❤️❤️

Isn’t it amazing how much joy something as simple as digging up potatoes can bring you? I harvested 40 pounds of potatoes last weekend, and I’m entering this big boy in our county fair. I never went to the fair as a kid, my family lived mostly in the city as I was growing up and it just wasn’t on my radar, but I’ve recently discovered the thrill of the fair! I love winning those blue ribbons seeing all of the animals and eating a big ‘ol pronto pup and basket of curly fries! Last year I won Grand Champion largest potato at the county fair and I’m hoping to win another big ribbon this year. It's about that time to start making my lists for the 2019 canning year! I make note of what we ran out of before the year was up, what we didn't touch, what we really love, and what new recipes I'd like to try. We had great garden harvests last year and I canned 308 jars. Will I surpass that number this year? It depends on mother nature and the care we give the gardens.
