With CBD becoming widely available in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and herbal preparations, medical scientists are taking a closer look at CBD-drug interactions. Cannabidiol is a safe, non-intoxicating, and non-addictive cannabis compound with significant therapeutic attributes, but CBD-drug interactions may be problematic in some cases. CBD and other plant cannabinoids can potentially interact with many pharmaceuticals by inhibiting the activity of cytochrome P450, a family of liver enzymes. This key enzyme group metabolizes most of the drugs we consume, including more than 60 percent of marketed meds. At sufficient dosages, CBD will temporarily deactivate cytochrome P450 enzymes, thereby altering how we metabolize a wide range of compounds, including tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which causes the high that cannabis is famous for. There’s nothing wrong with having 3 dogs, right?! That was what I posted 1 year ago, the first time I met Elphaba “Piper”. This meant two things, 1. I had fallen hard for a foster puppy 2. Bama was still with us. I will never forget the day I first met Elf. She was foster number 17. We had initially brought her into our home as a foster, a dog who was available for adoption. Before we met her we figured it would be like any other foster, with us until her forever home was found. Turned out, we were her forever home. She will be celebrating her 1 year adoptaversary this week. I couldn’t be happier.

November is epilepsy awareness month. Our epilepsy journey began in January 2017. Conner started to not be himself...quieter, not smiling as much, etc. then I noticed some odd eye movements one Saturday. I brushed it off because I was distracted changing his ostomy bag and I convinced myself I wasn’t actually sure what I saw. A few days later, I saw it again. I watched for a second then got out my phone and took a video. That video turned out to help us get a faster diagnosis and ultimately treatment on board sooner. Conner was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms which is a rare form of epilepsy that causes significant damage. It is also difficult to control. This diagnosis changed the course of Conner’s life in so many ways. I hope to share more of those added challenges during the month of November.

UPDATE Lots of you reached out yesterday after seeing my photo of Bennett hooked up for his EEG. I appreciate all your messages, it was a warm spot in a dark day. His results were not what I was hoping for and I think I had convinced myself that it was going to be ok. We couldn’t possibly get any more bad news right?!? When it wasn’t ok and we received the bad news, I kind of shattered. Your messages helped me realize that I am allowed to be broken sometimes as long as I put myself back together for this little man, my little warrior who’s been through far too much for such a young age.
