#throwbackthursday to Conner’s first ever trip to Toronto (and mine) and his first MEDEK intensive with the amazing Ester! Conner has been fortunate enough to work with a number of MEDEK therapists and I’ve been lucky enough to learn from the best. We are prepping for an extended stay in Toronto for therapy with @smiletherapyforkids and a few others. I am both nervous and excited about such a long trip working with a number of therapists. Hoping for a big month for Conner before he starts school!

WELL MY FRIENDS, I’M VENTURING OUT TO THE MALL TODAY!!! This may seem routine to some, but for me it’s a huge hurdle. Plain and simple, I have panic attacks. I went to the mall with my Mom in 2017. I had a panic attack like no other; things went in slow motion then fast forward. It was like the food court had a pulse and was smothering me. We had to leave, of course. I remember video chatting and crying to 2 people last summer because I THOUGHT I could go to the mall again. Special thanks to @nay.roseth and @jeremyfryrear My “go to” made me weigh the pros and cons; thank you Susan! BUT today I AM going to the mall. The forecast is sunny with no chance of rain in the food court. Today I am celebrating 1 year seizure free for the first time since I don’t even know when. I can write more on this huge anniversary for me — but right now the feelings are unreal and I can’t really wrap my head around it. 5 years ago, I was supposed to be getting ready to take my senior portrait. Little did I know I’d have to reschedule because I’d be drifting in and out of consciousness after experiencing my first grand mal seizure. No one in my family had ever witness one in real life and there was no family history of epilepsy. I’ve seen seizures portrayed in movies before, but it’s different when it happens to you. No one tells you that you’ll feel drained or that you’d bite your tongue so hard that it becomes jagged. At first, I hated that this happened to me and how doctors couldn’t tell me why, only to be careful and hope it doesn’t happen again. I was 17 at the time and I felt like the world was telling me I couldn’t live my life the way I wanted. It’s been a long road to accept what’s happened to me and my diagnosis, but I’ve gained strength in knowing that after every seizure I was able to bounce back slowly thanks to my family and the friends who stuck around and helped me feel like myself again (you know who you are); like a phoenix I found a way to pick myself up from that I consider my lowest. I tried my best to avoid taking medication, but after my second one I had to. Taking the medication changed who I was, I didn’t like feeling depressed and I’m glad that I’ve switched medications and I’m feeling so much better. I’m happy to say that’s it’s been 2 1/2 years since my last seizure and this is the longest I’ve gone without one. thought i looked cute, might delete...four years ago I dare you to post a pic from 4 years ago. Also 5 things that are positive since then. 1. I am not required to do schoolwork for a grade. I still enjoy learning and feel less pressured to master a topic the first time. 2. At that point in my life I thought not eatng+ working out was the way to success. Now I know better and instead of focusing on weight I focus on trying to just do a healthy effort everyday. Whether that be a gallon of water or switching out vegetables for chips. 3. I haven't had a seizure in two and a half years. I am in shock. I am in awe. I am extremly greatful to the Lord for answering my prayers. 4. I don't take crap anymore. At that point in my life I was afraid to be myself and I was taught honesty is best except when it wasn't. And finally I just started being honest alot. Or as much as I can. I am pretty honest with my feelings. With just life. Now I am still trying to figure out who I am but isn't everyone? 5. I am not perfect. I never will be. I may have a perfect moment or even a perfect day. However, my life will never be perfect. Only Jesus was perfect. So I'm not gonna pretend I am jesus and maybe try to love what God created.
