I’ve been saying I’m going to reveal the gorgeous art of my characters by @laura.hollingsworth in May, and since it’s almost May, I thought I’d share a little glimpse of the first character. You’ll get to see the full portrait THIS FRIDAY! I’m so excited to show you! Anyone want to guess who this belongs to? Put your guess down in the comments. Wraith, Dovan, or Red Death?

#bookqueensapr19 - April #bookhaul - it was really small yay me. Or not yay because I miss coming home to new books. I picked up Our Dark Duet by VE Schwab, Wicked Saints by Emily Duncan, and Quelling by Angie Gringaliunas (Seriously one of my favorite reads this year.). #fantasywipapril - your ideal cover - well. I’m keeping that to myself for now because I don’t know if it will look right, but if it does, Soul Crier’s cover is going to be really cool. .

It became a habit: tuesday 'Save the Cat' – day . So for the last time I show my storyboard. Like I said yesterday: I reached the end. The goal set for nanowrimo helped. I really recomment others to follow #nanowrimo. It was my first time and it was immediately a success.
. . .
And the post-it's didn't fall off
Happy writings to all of you! ❤️ #fantasywipapril :
28. Your Ideal Cover: to be honest, I haven't thought about this yet. I'm so focused on my story. But I think I like one of the pictures I posted once. It was a mermaid swimming in the sea. You only saw her tail. Something like that I like. ♀️ 29. What type of ending will your wip have? I go for a happy end this time.
30. How was your month? Busy, stressful, but I reached my goal, and more... So I'm happy

Suuuuuper late post, but it comes with a fun announcement!
.
Today I went slightly crazy and uploaded the ENTIRE first chapter of Prince of Shadow and Ash (book 1 of the duology) to my blog! If you enjoy medieval fantasy and are curious what my writing is like beyond snippets, you can check it out at selinargonzalez.com (or click the link in my bio!)

Ummmmm I may need to consider a book buying ban.
In my (poor) defense, A Curse so Dark and Lonely was from a book box I purchased back in January but only received this month, I got a good deal on Skyward and The Wish Granter, and the rest were great used deals. And the ebooks on the second slide were all on sale or free. But my book buying needs to stop outstripping my reading.
.
#FantasyWIPApril – What type of ending will your WIP have? A Thieving Curse's end is...all the feelz, hopefully. Bittersweet, emphasis on the sweet. Sweet and maybe a tiny bit spicy. But just a little.

Hello Lilacs! ✨✨
•
#fantasywipapril QOTD: least favorite fantasy trope.
•
AOTD: Honestly, I’m not sure if this is a fantasy trope as much as a fairytale trope? But it irks me when villains are evil because of nothing other than jealousy. Yes, this includes Disney, even though I love Disney. Maybe that’s my villain loving heart shining through, but it just drives me bonkers when villains have no other reason for hating the heroes. For the love of all things holy, give the poor villain a backstory!!! Aeron has one just as tragic as any of my protagonists.

What’s your least favorite fantasy trope?
What books have covers that just steal your heart?
.
.
This gorgeous beauty. And it’s odd because I usually feel meh about people on the covers. This cover just... no words friends. I’m eagerly looking forward to reading Roseblood by @aghoward_writes . Hopefully next year? Yes that was a TBR pile joke.
.
.
.
.
.
#bookreadhappyhour - this cover belongs in a gallery- RIGHT!!
#aprilbookstagram19 - backlist read
#fantasywipapril - is your MC here voluntarily- um no. Wraith is bound by a curse to a ruthless killer. She can’t venture very far outside the city. .

Happy #mapmonday bookworms . Let’s do a map themed predictive test game. Should be fun. Finish this sentence: “I followed the map to....” .
.
Also when you get to the third slide there’s another little tease of the art of my characters drawn by Laura Hollingsworth. You’ll get to see them in May. I’ll be hosting a #bookphotochallenge with Kara @karaswansonauthor and Katie @bohobookdragon and there will be giveaways so watch for the prompt. .
.
“I followed the map to see the map of my map Monday.”
.
.
.
#bookreadhappyhour - what do you mean I’m funny - makes me think of Scorch from Stain which has one of my favorite maps. Scorch is a fire-Pegasus.
#bookqueensapr19 - map Monday
#storieswithstephapr19 - map Monday
#fantasywipapril - what triggers your writer’s block? Oooo good question. The one word answer is pressure. One of the things that’s been really difficult about Soul Crier is I didn’t expect people to already be really excited about it. I’ve never published before. As much as I love and am so grateful for all the positive responses, it can get in my head. Paralyzing me because what if I can’t deliver? .

Do you like character art? Wanna see a sneak peek of my banshee from The Soul Crier? Swipe left.

Laura Hollingsworth is an amazing artist. I cannot wait to show you the full portraits in May. I decided early on that I wanted to do character art for my book. Honestly, mostly for me. But also for you guys too. I’m not a super visual writer when it comes to what my characters look like. So this whole process has been like bringing them to life. Really to life. I know their souls. Now I know their faces. As an update, I’ve actually stopped trying to put a release date on this story. The edits are being really difficult. This is the most challenging book, craft wise, that I’ve ever attempted. And I want to get it right. Right, not perfect. So it’s going to take me a bit more time. I am hoping it will be ready September/October for publication, but January 2020 is probably more accurate. Which might be better anyway since Winter is kind of an antagonist in the story. .
.
.
.
#fantasyonfriday - #booktree - What can I say? I’m a rebel. And probably lazy or intimidated by doing a giant stack of books to make an actual tree.
#storieswithstephapr19 - ultimate sacrifice. I picked these three books because there are characters I love who attempt or make the ultimate sacrifice. Especially Unbreakable by @saraellawrites oh I sobbed. So good though.
#aprilbookstagram19 - swept away - Mary Weber, Sara Ella, and Sarah White write stories that always sweep me away.
#fantasywipapril - what mistake has your main character made - Oooo spoilers. I think one I can talk about is how Wraith, my banshee, believes she has no power to change things because she’s cursed. Not true.

Happy Friday! Are you a knife/sword lover? I think you know my answer from this photo.

Behold. My collection of blades. I’m actually waiting on my first sword. Should be here soon. Hopefully in one piece. .

#bookreadhappyhour - say hello to my little friend/novellas - The Dark Water Saga by @patrickwcarr has a prequel novella that I LOVE. It was so fun to see Willet solve his first murder case. Yes these books are murder-mystery fantasy.
#storieswithstephapr19 - knights on the cover
#aprilbookstagram19 - friend’s recommendation- I don’t remember which friend recommended Carr’s books, but I’m glad they did. Willet is still one if my favorite characters.
#fantasywipapril - why do you write fantasy - because there’s more freedom than in regular fiction. I love making stuff up and experimenting with cultures, ideas, and geography. It’s the wonder really. .
