When I was in Primary 6 taking my Primary School Leaving Examinations, I spent the entire studying and having more tuition everyday. My mom was so crazy that she had my tuition teacher stayed over at our house. As a result, I passed. And i dropped out of school when I was 16!⠀ ⠀ On hindsight, thank God I didn't go through the entire education system as it would be a waste of time given what I'm doing now as my career. But at that time it was hell. Sometimes we need to stop and pause and look back and ask ourselves on hindsight was it was blessing in disguise that things didn't happen the way we wanted. I insisted on being with my soon to be ex husband and now I'm bearing the consequences of ignoring the red flags.⠀ ⠀ But then again if I had married some rich dude back then, I wouldn't become the woman that I am today. It was a longer journey but now, I'm the rich man my mother wanted me to marry.⠀ ⠀ Everything you desire, you can have it. Don't wait for anyone to hand it down to you. After 2 years of holding the grudge, I was finally done. You won't make any decisions until and unless you're sick and tired of being sick and tired. Being sick and tired is the first step but it's not enough to act because most people don't want to rock the boat. They're afraid of changes so they settle and lie to themselves that everything is ok.⠀ ⠀ I call this "fake positivity".⠀ ⠀ You can pretend to stay in wonderland all day long, but you'll know deep within yourself that you're dying. I can't say shifting a thought pattern is easy. It's not but that doesn't mean it's impossible! That's why until you're absolutely done, you won't be committed to your decision to live a healthier life.⠀ ⠀ So... wait till you're about to explode and reach rock bottom. For Mother’s Day I got a skateboard. A cruiser board, actually, that’s likely made for thirty-something-year-old cougars and slightly easier to ride. Meow ⠀ ⠀ It’s not easy though. It’s really awkward, in fact, and I kinda feel like an eighth grader slow dancing for the first time wondering if I’m, “doing it right”. Ya know?⠀ ⠀ But last night while I was practicing, I thought, ”is anything new ever easy?”⠀ ⠀ Like when I learned how to ride pow in Whistler trailing behind semi-pro skiers #embarrassing ‍♀️.⠀ ⠀ Or that first day of my Lighting designation when I discovered ‘light’ is basically a synonym for calculus...and all I wanted to do was make pretty lamps. Did someone say math? ...But it got easier.⠀ ⠀ Or that first day we brought our new baby home.⠀ ⠀ Or the first wedding I ever planned.⠀ ⠀ Or the first client I ever coached. ⠀ ⠀ Or the first time I stood up for something I believed in.⠀ ⠀ Or the first time I went to my mama’s grave.⠀ ⠀ I mean...doing new things is really courageous, isn’t it? And it’s usually slightly humiliating, almost always intimidating, and quite often a good ole fashioned blow to your ego.⠀ ⠀ Cuz guess what? We don’t like to be newbies. We like to be experts. We like to succeed. We like to be recognized for a job well done, not shamed on the road to getting there.⠀ ⠀ But here’s what me and my new skateboard have to say: that dance class you’ve been dying to try? That guy you’re afraid to ask on a date? That job you’re “not qualified” to apply for? But having someone who listens to your endless talks about your business is ESSENTIAL! Starting your own business can be a lonely road. The first ever b adventure I had was when I just turned 18.
