Reposting this one, because I’m still always seeing comments about this on the internet! ⁣ .⁣ I’m talking about babies on the inside I’m realizing that this picture standing on its own is totally false, because an 8 month old crawling moves a lot faster than a newborn! ⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ ANYWAY, this is something that irks me. Let’s talk. ♥️⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ Many times women hear the statement, “As your baby gets bigger, he/she might move less because there is less room.”⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ This can be from a provider, a friend, a mom, sister etc. ⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ While this is SOMEWHAT true for some, it can get misconstrued into women thinking when their baby is not moving as usual, it’s simply normal because “they are running out of room in there”. ⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ YOU GUYS⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ It’s really important that if you are nearing term and your baby is not moving as frequently that you CALL YOUR PROVIDER!⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ This goes for other women around you too. If you hear a pregnant lady say her baby is not moving as much because he’s run out of room, tell her to call her provider!⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ As baby gets bigger, movements may be more DULLED....you might feel “rolls” instead of sharp “jabs”, BUT baby should be moving just as much, and you should still keep track by doing fetal kick counts! ⁣⁣ .⁣⁣ Lie down on your side once a day and count baby’s movements. Baby should be moving 10 times in 2 hours. Some babies do this in the first 30 minutes, some it takes the whole two hours! ⚜️TRANSCEREBELLAR PLANE AND POSTERIOR FOSSA ASSESSMENT⚜️ ‍DEFINITIONS The cerebellum is a suprasegmental portion of the brain located within the cranial posterior fossa that receives input from virtually the entire nervous system, playing a key role in movement coordination.| The cerebellomedullary cistern, also known as cisterna magna, corresponda to a portion of the subarachnoid space that bathes the cranial posterior fossa in CSF. It arcs around the cerebellum posteriorly, invaginating in the midline between the cerebelares hemispheres! ‍HOW TO MEASURE ❓ To evaluate the posterior fossa, a horizontal plane of the fetal head equal to that used for determination of the BPD (a transthalamic plane) must be obtained. Once the landmarks of the thalami and the cavum septum pellucidum are identified, a slight caudal rotation of the probe will depict the characteristic butterfly-like appearance of the cerebellum into view! The transverse cerebellar diameter (TCD) can then be measured as the widest diameter across both hemispheres in an outer-to-outer fashion! The cisterna magna depth is evaluated in the same plane and measured in the median plane from the posterior aspect of the cerebellum to the inner table of the occiput! ‍DISCUSSION The fetal cerebellum can be visualized sonographically as early as 11 postmenstrual weeks. It grows rapidly in the second trimester following a linear relationship with gestational age, so that during this period, measurements in millimeters equal approximately the gestational age in weeks. Many authors have proposed that the TCD, as opposed to the BPD, can better predict gestational age in cases which variations of the fetal head, such as dolichocephaly and brachycephaly, have been described! Also have been reported to be used to predict gestational age in diabetic patients with an estimated fetal weight at or above the 90th percentil and to evaluate fetal growth in twin gestations! ‍Finally, many congenital alterations of the posterior fossa can modify the normal size of the cisterna magna, whose mean normal depth has been reported to be 5 mm with a SD +- 3 mm.
