Dinosaur valley state park is a popular destination due to its beautiful views, river and of course dinosaur tracks! It has great trails you can hike as short or as long as you would like, and even primitive sites you can backpack to. The river isn’t really flowing right now so fire danger is high and it’s not a great idea to swim, but that does mean the tracks are super visible! With Dinosaur Valley being a popular destination that means a lot of different people come through the park and some are unaware of what leaving your trash can do to the environment. @leavenotracecenter is a great resource for different things you can do to help out our natural spaces and leave it better than you found it. Unfortunately this is the most trash I’ve ever picked up at a park so remember to just be mindful and pack out everything you bring with you! I thought I’d bring this #instagramtakeover to a close with some visuals from my home park, Dinosaur Valley State Park @dinovalleysp. One of my favorite hikes follows the shoreline of the Paluxy River around the park, offering an up-close and unique perspective of this river. The textures and colors are pristine, and refreshing to the eyes and soul. Recently, I sat at the Blue Hole just to watch the bass skim the shoreline and the catfish feed on the bottom. Almost every time I do this, conversations with passersby spark up and I get to answer questions and chat with people who are enjoying their day doing the exact same thing. By far, my favorite question I have received so far in my ambassadorship was from a 5th grader who asked if the park had ever thought about or considered trying to bring dinosaurs back to life! I hated to disappoint the kid, but that seems like a job for future ambassadors. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀I’ve truly had an awesome time this past week sharing with you parts of my story and the experience of joining the #txstateparkambassadors. My love life is extinct like this dinosaur

In November, I applied, interviewed and was chosen to attended four days of training to become a Texas State Park Ambassador (@txstateparkambassadors) My Park is Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas (@dinovalleysp). There were 22 young leaders in our group, all eager to figure out exactly what they’ll be doing for their particular state parks over the upcoming months. We camped in 18 degree weather, mountain biked, backpacked, learned how to throw an Atlatl, “kissed” longhorns from the Official Longhorn Herd of Tx, and did a couple night hikes together at Copper Breaks State Park. We had the opportunity to learn from over a dozen rangers and staff from Texas Parks and Wildlife including our incredible Ambassador Trainers, interpretive rangers, superintendents, and directors. We got to pick their brains, hear their hopes for the parks system, and understand the struggles that our parks are facing. We also left with an understanding of exactly how, through our ambassadorship, we can advocate and execute solutions to some of the challenges presented. I’m over-the-moon excited for this stewardship opportunity, and to have found such a community of young leaders and like minded folks.
