How many times your body weight is the force during the landing of a jump? It helps strengthen your body and improve the resistance your joints can withstand. It also teaches you to control the crazy amount of torque your body experiences during the landing phase of a jump ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So, time for part two of the landing hop exercise I posted a couple of days ago. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ WHAT ——— Exercise: Rotating landing hops Skill type: Off-ice Difficulty: Beginner + ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ WHY ——— Learn to land jumps safely off-ice Improve strength & reduce injury risk Connect hips & shoulders ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ HOW ——— The goal of this exercise is learn the manage the landing while keeping the form of your landing position, with the shoulders and hips square and connected, facing forward at all times. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Keep the head up, arms extended, have a strong back, free-leg extended to 7 o’clock (anti clockwise rotation) or 5 o’clock (clockwise rotation). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Simply rotate in a circle by hopping up and down landing on the ball of your foot as light as possible. Rotate for 3-4 complete rotations. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Focus on keeping your weight directly through your landing hip at all times. Can you believe this is my 100th post already Thank you all #teamcoachhamish skaters and followers for building a community to help and inspire skaters all over the world, no matter what age or skating background ⛸ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ WHAT ——— Exercise: Forward outside triple three back cross Skill Type: Basic skating Difficulty: Intermediate + ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ WHY ——— Exercise specifically tailored to jumps Connect hips and shoulders ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ HOW ——— When we jump we bend and rise, so we need to reinforce this movement more within our exercises. This exercise has been tweaked to specifically helps encourage this action. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ Start with a left forward outside three turn, leading strongly with the left shoulder with the free-leg and arms extended. Keep the free leg extend after each turn. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here’s the important part, make sure you press and rise up in the ankle and knee for each turn to keep your rhythm. Now go back down to complete the backward crossover. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Step forward using a choctaw(facing inside the the circle) to repeat this sequence on the other side. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Try and skate this exercise on an eight count. The threes takes four counts and the back cross uses the remaining four counts.
