Intriguing aerial footage of a humpback whale that was trapped in a Southern California harbor back in May. The whale was eventually led out to the Pacific Ocean, but the reason I share this video is because it's not a view you typically see. So as not to promote wildlife harassment, I cropped this clip right as the lady in the white shirt at the end was about to pet the humpback. Это была акция активистов Greenpeace с требованием освободить незаконно выловленных косаток и белух, которые уже 7 месяцев содержатся в китовой тюрьме. ⠀ 40 дней назад Владимир Путин поручил решить судьбу животных, но до сих пор решение о выпуске на волю 10 косаток и 87 белух не приняли. What if you were forced to live in a tank the size of a bathtub for your entire life? That's exactly what life at SeaWorld is like for Tilikum, the 6-ton orca (aka "killer whale"). Orcas in the wild have an average life expectancy of 30 to 50 years—their estimated maximum lifespan is 60 to 70 years for males and 80 to over 100 for females. The average age of death for orcas who have died at SeaWorld is 0-30 years old. SeaWorld confines orcas, who could swim up to 100 miles a day in the wild, to tanks that, to them, are the size of a bathtub. A fabulous breaching sequence of an endangered North Atlantic right whale sighted off Provincetown, Massachusetts! . North Atlantic right whales are critically endangered—the western population numbers around 400 whilst the eastern population is in the mere 10s. Entanglement in fishing gear and ship collisions are their greatest threats. Very little data exist on N.A. right whale longevity, but it is believed they can easily live 40-70 years. Females are larger than males and typically produce their first calf at age 10. Right whales differ from other baleen whales in that they feed by swimming through large patches of zooplankton with their mouths open, allowing the baleen to filter prey from water. For years, she has lived completely alone in a concrete tank About 40 years ago, when Kiska was a baby, she was captured off of the coast of Iceland. She has lived at Marineland ever since. Kiska gave birth to 5 calves, but all of them died when they were very young. "Please share ❗️ My name is Lolita and this is my story Lolita was torn away from her family and natural habitat decades ago, along with dozens of other orcas in Puget Sound who were later sold to marine parks. Nearly a half-century later, she is the last surviving orca of the 45 who were captured and is still imprisoned by Miami Seaquarium—in the smallest, oldest orca tank in North America—while the rest of her pod, including an orca believed to be her mother, swims freely. Lolita is a member of the Southern Resident orca population—a group of orcas who are now protected as an endangered species, in large part because captures like hers decimated the population. Lolita has not had contact with another orca since 1980, when her tank mate, Hugo, died after repeatedly ramming his head into a wall. Everyone's heard of Free Willy, but what about "Free Lolita"? A killer whale that has been held in a tiny pool for over 46 years is the property of an investment firm in London, according to activists who have stepped up a campaign for her release. Lolita, who was captured in 1970 off the North West coast, has lived days and nights in a tank measuring around 50 foot wide and 20 foot deep – around the same size as a hotel swimming pool.
