When working in a funeral home (especially a family run funeral home) there are many more tasks to do OTHER than your “assigned” tasks (embalming, funeral directing, etc). For example, I am playing the secretary role right now, but then in a little bit I’ll be taking a deceased out to their visitation, and earlier this morning I was in the prep room. Some funeral homes during downtime landscape their property using their employees... I’m just saying, everyday is different and you have to be flexible! Practicing embalming in Kentucky is much busier than some states because traditional open casket visitations/services are still prominent (compared to some states with HIGH cremation rates). Did you know, you can be embalmed, have an open casket service, THEN get cremated? Cremation is just a form of disposition, like burial or entombment.
