Something fun I worked on earlier in the year - these boots have to be tried on to be believed so comfortable ... @dizhin you’d love these ... here’s the background to the illustrations • @poddyandblack When we began designing our first collection of footwear it was important that the lining was something different, a bit like the boots were! We knew we needed to find an artist who could reflect some of our favourite themes that related to the outdoors and gardening. We asked @cheriejerrard our lovely, creative, artist friend from Shrewsbury. She lives locally to one of our team which was also a huge bonus! Her work was something we all admired and once we sat down with Cherie and talked about some of our ideas we knew that she understood what we were trying to achieve. We had visions of seed heads, pea pods, our favourite floral scissors and gardening gloves! We gave all this to Cherie and she came up with the design that you can now see on the lining of our boots, the boxes they come in and the bags we give our at fairs. We’ve also used it on the website. It was so important that we worked with someone who could see what we were trying to achieve, and Cherie did just that! The first image you see here is one of a few sketches that Cherie did of our boots having the Poddy customised with flowers. If you swipe you will see how we used her design on the boot boxes.... Pea pods, seed heads, floral scissors... all the things we asked for! Tomorrow is @gardendayuk , a great opportunity for us all to celebrate either our own gardens, or local open gardens and spaces. A day to down tools and get outside with family and friends. Gardening is so beneficial, not only keeping us fit, but for our mental health too! Learning about plants and watching them grow on your windowsill, in your garden or on your allotment....wherever you can! It can only give you happiness when you’re eating your own veggies or enjoying flowers in a vase. Right from the very beginning it was really important to us that our boots and shoes were a little bit different. The idea that had started the ball rolling had to become part of design. If you scroll to see the other picture you will see how it all began! A pair of old wellies, cut down so they were easy to get on and off at the back door. They were invariably decorated with whatever was flowering in the garden which was held on by a clothes peg or bulldog clip!! In trying to achieve this fun idea, the “Poddy” was created...
