Nothing like a bouquet of greens from the garden to add to our lentil soup for dinner, especially on such a cold day. I managed to get dinner on early this morning so I could get some mulching done today. Feels and looks so much better in the garden only a few more wheel barrows to move before I move onto mulching the fruit trees!

Comfrey is a great addition to your plot or garden. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One reason to have this really useful plant on your allotment or garden is that it produces gorgeous purple flowers which pollinators absolutely love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Another reason is because it’s actually a brilliant natural fertiliser. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This amazing plant is full of nitrogen, phosphorus & potassium which your veg will absolutely love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The leaves & stalks are a great addition for your compost heap or you can make comfrey tea, a natural liquid fertiliser, with them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To make your tea add lots of leaves & stalks to a bucket of water or stuff them into empty plastic milk cartons & then add the water. Leave this for about 4 weeks to rot down & then add the murky mixture to your watering can as you would with a shop bought liquid feed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ *Disclaimer* I feel it is my duty to point out that if you’ve never encountered comfrey tea before, it’s a little on the smelly side.......ok, ok it’s A LOT on the smelly side so be very careful not to slop any on yourself or your clothes!!!

This is the 'Twenty Eight' parrot, also known as the Australian Ringneck, named so because it's call sounds like it is saying 'twenty eight'... they ate all my apples last season, which is why I don't have any apple cider or stewed apples at the moment... I still love them though.

We are going again with the potato crop. We suspect that the last crop we planted was a little late and that the summer sun withered the plants before they had a chance to really swell up the tubers. Consequently we were harvesting golf ball sized potatoes at best. This time around we are planting much earlier in the year but using the same method of growing in bags. As the potato plants grow upwards, we add more compost and mulch and roll the bag up a little higher. #growwhatyoueat #eatwhatyougrow

Courgettes are coming on fast in the polytunnel. The first of the season will be landing on our plates this week. This is an early variety, Verde di Italia.
