Happy Sunday to all. . Today I am resharing an earlier print of mine that I call “Enlightened.” (For a better view of the print, see the second photo.) . “Enlightened” is a memorial print. It was inspired by my beloved cat Motor, who passed away almost three years now. . The idea behind this image is a belief I have, that once we all pass, we will have a better understanding of the meaning of our lives, and what comes after. We become “enlightened.” I believe this for us as humans and for animals. . Motor was a special love of mine. He has been the inspiration behind most of my cat prints. I sketch most of my designs first then trace them onto grey lino. These ginkgo leaves have such intricate lines, so I have to clean the carving after each print so the ink doesn’t clog up the details. I then take my time to hand print with a bamboo baren. I love this process and it feels quite meditative. I have 4 of these limited prints up on Etsy ✨

This is an example of something that looked awesome in my head but the actual doing did not live up to expectations. Don’t get me wrong - I like this print, particularly the way it pops - but it’s just not quite how I imagined it. That’s ok though, it’s simply the process...

My offering for #the100dayproject. I feel strongly that my work is always a reflection of my emotional state. Although I have noticed that sometimes those connections are more easily made than other times. Today was a day when I could draw a clear line between my state of mind and my art making. . I have been feeling gloomy lately....in part because of the crazy world we live in and in part because of what's happening in and around me. So this piece is about my effort to keep things simple and find the rainbow in all of that gloom. It helped me to feel a bit better and I sincerely hope that it brings a smile to your face. .
