"While feeding Hvaldimir a few weeks back, we lost a bucket in the water and to our surprise it started sinking. But Hvaldimir knew what to do. He swam down and fetched the bucket for us. The shoal bass population in the Chipola River and its tributaries has potentially been affected due to the impacts of Hurricane Michael. FWC issued an executive order on June 5, 2019, suspending the harvest and possession of shoal bass from the Chipola River and its tributaries effective immediately until the order is repealed.
Anglers are still permitted to catch and immediately release shoal bass. As a further proactive conservation measure, FWC biologists are preparing to spawn shoal bass at our Blackwater Fish Hatchery in Holt, FL. Unlike largemouth, shoal bass do not have the dark lateral band down their side, but instead have distinct vertical stripes that resemble “tiger stripes”. #fwcresearch #shoalbass #chipolariver #hurricanemichael #blackwaterhatchery #fwc

The National Hurricane Center is predicting a near normal season, so now is the time to have your plan and prepare your supplies. Let’s hope for a calmer season than we had last year. Here’s a video I captured last year of a feeder band from Hurricane Michael that produced a brief waterspout/ tornado on Lido Key. Remember even though a storm might not directly hit us, it can still bring us severe weather.
