MOUNT SHASTA - Yesterday we attempted to climb from 7,000’ to 14,180’ ft in one day but didn’t make it. Everything was going great up until 11,000’ or so when my stomach took a turn. I got way into my own head and the stress of it all screwed me up. It also didn’t help that my mind and body were running on only 2 hours of sleep! We kept climbing. . Finally got to Mushroom Rock at around 12,800’ and decided to call it quits, for a second, but then proceeded to climb a bit further anyway. At this point it was all scree and scrambling and we were running out of gas. Clouds started to roll in and the rocks got looser. My stomach was begging me to stop, it had been begging me for hours. We made the hard decision to for real turn around this time just past 13,000’. . A fellow climber on the way down told us that it usually takes 3 tries to get 1 successful summit on this mountain and I couldn’t believe them more. I’ve attempted to summit this beautiful beast twice now; first time back in 2016. A lot of lessons have been learned and it’s been hardddddddd but I can’t wait to be back and finally be on top. Third time’s a charm, right?

Last night I did a scary thing. One of those scary things you’re so nervous about and even question yourself like whyyyyy did I even sign up for this thing lol. All along while being extremely proud and grateful and just freaking happy you did it anyway. . . . In a couple weeks I will be doing another scary thing. Anybody wanna guess what lol? hint: it involves hiking.

Our friend @davidmrule found this epic location and this is what he had to say. The Potash Mine of Moab looks like some sort of crazy alien lake on Mars. Here, they pump water deep into the ground to absorb potash ore. It’s then moved to these evaporation ponds where water is removed and potassium containing salts are left behind and collected for use in fertilizer. In addition to salts, epic aerial sizzlers can be harvested here. : @davidmrule #aswediscover
