Just recently, I was sharing with somebody that I have a lot of friendships which were forged via social media. We knew each other from forums, blogs and then added each other on FB and IG. Even with a screen in between us, I sometimes feel as if we are real life friends because we see each other grow up, from teenagers to young working adults to parents and then watching the kids grow up. How many of you remember those Flowerpod and Les Dames forum days? These are the bunch of gals who grew up together and even though everything is online, I feel that our friendship is very real. How many of you read my blog since 10 over years ago? I got to know so many friends through my blog because of my goddaughter Charmaine. She has already been watching us from above for the past 8 years. Your kindness towards her during her cancer days allowed us to form beautiful friendships. Like a positive ripple effect, I was able to reach out to more like-minded people and more relationships were formed from my humble little blog. Charmaine’s plight brought my blog and relationships with people to a whole new level then. Through blogging, I also got to make many international friends from all over the world. I have even met up with a few of you! For those we didn’t meet, it sure feels like we know each other from thousands of miles away. I’m always amazed at how the Internet and social media have created opportunities for people who would potentially never see each other to develop and nurture friendships that would have been almost impossible. I love all these little connections made across the globe. While I continue to meet people face to face and organically, social media has truly created a unique opportunity to expand my network and knowledge. “Real relationships and friendships are not solely rooted in the immediate people around you in the community or area you live and work. Find your people, your "tribe," your network or community — whatever term you want to give them. All praises is to Allah, Alhamdulilah , it takes me by surprise that this book has met people, crossed states, reached places I can only dream of visiting (one day, in sha Allah), which is why, I'm holding a contest. What is ONE thing you assume about me •• Curious to know..... •• I think it's easy to assume stuff about other people's lives because we PRIMARILY are sharing the good stuff/highlights on IG. •• I like to think I share most all of it on IG stories (as you guys know), but there's still plenty of stuff I don't share for one reason or another. Because I can't, don't feel comfortable or it's just private. •• So hit me with it below.... •• Maybe it's about fitness. Maybe it’s about nutrition. Maybe it's about business. Maybe it's about relationships or life. •• I'll do my best to confirm, deny, or just tell you the REAL REAL. •• Here’s a few examples I get frequently: •• 1️⃣You eat super clean all the time. NOPPPPE. 2️⃣You workout multiple times a day YEP, usually true. I like to space out a couple of movement sessions a day. This is primarily to break up the amount of sitting at the computer I do. In my previous post, I talked about the beauty of the Internet and social media in bringing people together. I love all these little connections I’ve made in my own country and across the globe which started mainly from blogging. I love my Instagram community too! I made lots of them post blogging days. Even though IG is a platform whereby everything is more instant, captions and comments are shorter and sometimes written with less heart, there are people who still engage sincerely instead of merely scrolling and hearting ♥️ or using VAs and bots. I always take note of people who read my loooong blog-like captions and comment based on my text contents rather than my images. I’m also particularly appreciative of IG friends who are so called IG-famous with 6-digit number of followers still following back, still reading long captions and still commenting with their heart . @kerina.wang is one great example! We knew each other during blogging days. She blossomed on IG with a really beautiful feed, gorgeous hair and never ending legs, yet she remained witty, down-to-earth and as true as possible even as she struts to various countries fashionably dressed . She still replies to her few hundreds of comments and also returns the love back by leaving sweet comments on fellow IGers posts. She also replies to haters with love and wit. When I told her how appreciative I am of our online friendship and how some IG friends unfollowed when they became “IG-famous”, she was surprised and said she would never unfollow her friends made from long time ago. She said, “True friends and loyalty don’t go hand in hand with social media but I’m glad you’re one of the few who cherish them ❤️” If you haven’t already followed @kerina.wang, go check out her beautiful account and give her some love and add on to her 564k followers.
