The 2019 subs for my running club fell due today and it’s safe to say that it’ll be one of my best purchases of the year. . When I took up running in October 2015 it was only for short distances on the treadmill at the gym and purely as a means to lose weight. As the spring came I started to do a few runs outside and in June 2016 I was persuaded by a friend to do my first ever Parkrun. . For the following two years I trained mostly solo, running with friends whenever I could, but after my second marathon last year I decided it was time to join a running club — let’s face it, dragging yourself out in the wind and rain for a 20 mile run is a lot easier if you’ve got someone to go with. . Joining a running club was something that I was unsure about. I worried that people might take it all a little too seriously or that I wouldn’t be good enough. My fears were completely unfounded though and if I’m honest it’s something I should have done much sooner. . In just one year of membership I’ve made new friendships, represented my club in numerous races, paced a local 10K race and been supported by my club to qualify as a run leader. We have an active Facebook group so if I want advice or someone to run with I just need to post a message. And of course there are the weekly training sessions and group runs, like tonight’s little jaunt with the 8mm crew. . If you’ve made it this far through my whimsical post well done! But in seriousness my message is this: whatever your sport or interest, if you haven’t already done so, find and join a club — you won’t regret it. . Happy Thursday!

Another segment of 'Tendonitis Tuesday' comin at ya! Still no real-running for this hip, BUT exciting news...I have graduated to running in the pool! ‍♀️ This aqua-running is hilarious to watch as I make countless laps around the perimeter; but, is surprisingly challenging and keeps my running muscles activated. So as was the case last week, I'm still playing it smart.
