I love the words “Be Still.” But sometimes I worry that we equate them more with a relaxing morning than with a heart at rest. What does it really mean to be still? . As I studied Psalm 46 recently, my heart was so comforted to read the command to Be still and know that He is God. As I dug deeper into words I had read so many times before, I found myself reading through the Hebrew Lexicon. I learned something interesting. To be still means to let go, to let something fall from your hands, to relax your grip. It was a good reminder for me that I can let go of my own plans, and embrace His plan. I can let go...knowing that He will hold me through it all. I can relax my white-knuckled grip to doing it my way and trust that His way is perfect. I can stop doing it in my own strength. I can abide in Him. I can know that He is God. And because He is God, I don't have to try to be. . I can be still. Not just a quiet morning of relaxation...but a calm and quiet heart that it resting in His plan and His love. I can lay my burdens at His feet. I can rest safe and secure in Him. I will be still.

LET’S TALK ABOUT SUFFERING. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ January 2, 2018. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Snapping a cheesy tourist pic on Brooklyn Bridge in 0 degree weather, hair flying everywhere, freezing our faces off. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It was cold but that didn’t stop us from walking over that famous bridge. There’s just something about New York that makes you feel like anything is possible. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I wonder how I would’ve felt if I knew then that Brad would be hit with so many health challenges soon after we got home. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s been nearly a year and a half of endless doctors appointments, medicine changes, and money out the door. We’ve gotten our hopes up to be crushed time and time again as nothing has worked. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yesterday, while I was speaking at my old high school, a grade 7-9 teenager asked me this question: “If God is real, why can’t we feel Him when it’s hard?” I’ve got to be honest, this question hit me hard. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This past semester, I’ve learned so much about the theology of suffering. I chose to do two assignments on the topic to understand it more. And I’ve got to tell you, I’ve been so comforted by what I’ve learned. It’d take me all day to share it with you but I want to say this. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You’re not alone in your suffering. None of us are. God is with you. God is fully divine. Yet He also became man. God isn’t aloof to your suffering. He went through it himself. Taking on the weight of the world on His shoulders. Bearing everything for us. God could have found another way, after all - He’s God. He didn’t have to do this but He chose to. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am comforted knowing God is in control and yet He is so intimately involved in our lives that He chooses to suffer with us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But our hope isn’t just in a God who suffers, but a God who is victorious. A God who conquers all sin and evil and suffering. He is the one who has the final say. And while we may suffer temporarily, we are assured of an incomprehensibly beautiful future with Him. ❤️

⠀ There is always fear when we put trust in ourselves. We are so limited in our ability to truly control any outcome, and trusting ourselves only leads to worry.⠀ ⠀ But there is no fear in trusting the Father. He has promised to lead those who love Him, to plant them, and allow their roots to grow deep. He has promised that those who trust in Him will bear fruit. ⠀ ⠀ There is no fear in trusting Him, only security and strength. When we live our lives in trust and surrender to Him, we have no reason to worry about what the future holds. Like a tree planted by streams of water, we need not fear when the drought comes. Trust keeps us at the source of life, and allows us, through humility, to know more of Him.⠀ ⠀ “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, ⠀ whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, ⠀ for it does not cease to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17-7:8⠀ ⠀ Encouragement today from my husband @williekaz

Two good cups of coffee today. Being able to smile at the red ICEE stain on my new white shirt, a consequence of life and being human. Time with dear friends. A dance party early this AM to shake off anxiety. A hot shower. An honest and important conversation. A good cry. An amazing 3 hour therapy sess with my mom. Lotsssss of talking and working through things = lots of healing and release. A warm bed. A podcast that makes me laugh. My journal. Just some things that point to gratitude today and made me thankful ✨ what little things reminded you that you are human today? How did you see God? What brought you joy? I want to hear it all ❤️
