My hand might look strange today but these female Ghost Mantids (Phyllocrania paradoxa) are stunning little creatures! At a glance you’d think they were leaves but their varying color forms and beautifully flared details help them camouflage among foliage to foil predators and their prey. Unlike many other mantids, these guys can be housed communally and rarely cannibalize their cohabitants and mates. This little fella has been very lazy so I thought I would take him to the fly !!! Happily sitting on my finger, this little nymph of Pseudocreobotra whalbergii, readily waits for me to take him to ready and waiting flesh flies just asking to be gobbled up, and it’s not long before he catches his first in the blink of an eye.... they are so quick the fly doesn’t have much chance. The spiny flower mantis is displaying a defense pose which scares off predators with those large intimidating eyespots.
