Today is “Anything Goes” Day for #marchmeetthemaker “ ❤️ . . What’s your Passion? . . Bella of @mcbride_house and I held our 2019 Villa Felting Retreat last week. It was a whole weekend of felting, laughter and friendship. Thank you all! ❤️ . . My favourite part was the Saturday evening “Passion Show”. Everyone was invited to share something that they were passionate about, anything at all that was important to them. It was absolutely amazing to learn about the special things in your life. A "Throwback" Thursday post for #MarchMeetthemaker! Instead of just posting one picture of something I did a few years ago I thought, since bunny season is right around the corner, I would show you some of my bunnies from previous years....starting with the little white bunny from 2012. Then there seemed to be a huge "leap" ;) between years when bunnies were at their minimal and then in 2016 the bunnies exploded and are now a mainstay in McBride House. They went from ones that you could hold in the palm of your hand to giant heads to grace your walls. As you can see, each one is one-of-a-kind and until I'm finished with them, I never know what character they will have....I love that about my job! I'm happy to say the Redhead duck that I was working on for the CBC interview is done! A little secret...I was working on him when I found out I was to have the interview so put him aside so that I could have him to work on while filming! I think the thing I loved most about the interview was the behind the scenes part and just how many pieces that Catherine and Ed had to piece together to make it one cohesive story. And the lights! Big lights on tripods set up all over the house, some set up on the outside looking into my studio windows just so that there was enough light to film! Every time we moved or Ed took stills they would have to be moved. To say these two were good at their job in an understatement! This quacky fella is heading to the 2019 SNB Chapter of Delta Waterfowl Annual Dinner to be auctioned off but I have a feeling I might just be doing some more decoys in my future. "Motivation/Goals" is today's #MarchMeetTheMaker prompt. Hmmm....I've been asked this before and it's a tough one. Motivation is easy, I'm simply motivated by the world around me! As for goals...I have goals but I don't really like to reveal them as what if I fail...not fail at them but fail to get to them? I like to keep my goals tight to my chest until I feel I'm ready to reveal them. However, my main goal is quite simple. I want to be happy. Having a chronic illness, as I'm sure so many of you know, it's hard to be happy all the time. I struggle with ups and downs but creating always levels me out. So my goal is to continue doing what I'm doing but at a pace I can handle. I never pursue anything until I know I'm ready. I waited many years before I did my first show and I'm so glad I did. I simply wasn't ready. Things will happen when they are suppose to happen as long as your open to the possibilities. And why might you ask did I post a picture of my dancing ballerina piggy for today's post of "Goals and Motivation"? It's getting close to the end for #MarchMeetTheMaker and today is "most difficult make". I'm going to be completely honest with you....every make is the most difficult make. I always tell my classes this and it's true. In every single piece I make I reach a point where I throw my hands in the air and I say "I can't do this! Everyone is going to figure out that I'm a fraud! How on earth did I think I could ever do this for a living?! What am I going to do with all of this wool!". Seriously. Every. Single. Time. Without fail. But, I push through. I ignore those little naysayers in my head and I keep going. Sometimes it just takes a matter of a few minutes and I'm on the right track, other times it takes hours and hours of self doubt before I find the critter hidden in the wool. But every single time I do find what I was searching for. Every. Single. Time. Without fail. At least I now know that this will happen and I'm prepared for it. It's never any less discouraging, but I do know if I just keep going, the magic inside will reveal itself. Every. Single. "How I learnt" is today's prompt for #MarchMeetTheMaker challenge. Now I assure you, this is no secret. There is no magical rainbow unicorn that taught me the secrets of needle felting. It is simply practice, practice, practice. I am entirely self taught but this is only because I cannot follow directions if my life depended on it. I'm the kind of person that throws the directions away and says "Pfttt...I don't need no stinking directions"......but probably should have read the directions and finished in half the time. I honestly dream at night trying to figure out how to put things together. One night I dreamt on how to sew a specific purse. When I woke up I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. I ran into the studio to pick up the pieces of the purse to start to assemble it and then realized that there was no such purse. I dreamt the entire thing. Seriously. You have no idea how disappointed I was. However, that being said, just know if you do something you love, every single day, you will only get better and better. I personally can't wait for another 10 years to see where I will be at. I just received these gorgeous little fibre treat bags that each participant in our upcoming 2019 Villa Felting Retreat will receive. We will be using these for a little extra project. Thanks to Nath @artgus_studio_inc, one of my amazing fibre suppliers for donating these. They are beautiful and wonderful! Yay!
