My gorgeous client @meredith_mallin finding her joy for painting again ・・・ BE IN THE MOMENT.... . This can be SUCH a hard thing to learn (or practice) as adults... we find it so hard to tune out to all the noise, our attention is so easily divided into an endless to-do list, we seem to constantly be worrying about the “next” thing that needs to be dealt with. Today I was given such a precious gift in my studio. My toddler. 15 months old and she knows how to mess up a canvas REAL good she didn’t care about anything but being in the moment, delighting in the feel of the paint on her fingers (and her toes, always the toes ), exploring, discovering, creating out of pure joy in the sensoriality of PAINT. I found myself experiencing that through her in the most beautiful way. And it is super interesting how it changed my perspective on how I was looking at the canvas (and my life) too. . So... I’m going to try to carry this with me through the weekend. To give myself the gift of being in the moment whenever I can. I don’t believe we have to be 100% present all the time (In fact I think this is a somewhat damaging thing that’s thrown around a lot these days)... but to find moments in the day in which we can authentically connect with ourselves, the people around us and the place in which we stand. Looking at this little process vid makes me realise just how much my art practice has grown.. changed.. morphed... becoming something entirely different. I am finding such a deep satisfaction in letting go of imagery and focusing on colour, contrast, texture and tiny details like line quality.... I’m still not sure where the little squiggly lines come from but they just feel so right ‍♀️ ...
