Paperless home. ⠀ ⠀ some cultures, like the Japanese, don’t use napkins during meals. Have you realized that paper napkins, wipes and towels are created for the sole purpose to be used only for a few seconds and then thrown away? ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ⠀ At home, we replaced single use paper towels with handkerchiefs, old t-shirts rugs and napkins made from fabric. I always keep on the counter top a jar filled with small squares I made from a old table runner and a pillow case, for little spills or as on-the-go wipes when we eat out or at work. I have a pile or rags under the sink in the bathroom for cleaning and tea towels for dry the dishes and my hands in the kitchen. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ⠀ On the market there are plenty of alternatives, like reusable bamboo paper towels that feel exactly like paper, but for me, I think is much easier and convenient to use old pillow cases or even go to a Second Hand shop and buy some reusable napkins for very small prize. Or as an alternative, look at home ( or your grandma ‘s) because surely you ‘ll be able to find some matching with a tablecloth. ( a very common wedding gift in Italy). ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ ⠀ Once I’ve collected enough dirty napkins and rugs I simply chuck them in the washing machine and they are ready for another round . SOAP NUTS I am still new when it comes to using soap nuts in our home, but I'll give my honest opinion about how they work and what I use them for. . So, When I first came across these little brown things a few months back, I wondered what the heck they were and what on earth they were used for . Soap Nuts or sometimes called Soap Berries are a species of shrub, small tree in India and Nepal. Technically they are a fruit more then a nut. Anyway, they contain naturally-occurring saponins that, when mixed with water produce a lather and have the power to lift stains and grime. You can use them in a variety of different ways - laundry, hair - shampoo, house hold cleaning, dishsoap and can even repel ants! The list of uses is endless. Best of all they are 100% natural and very inexpensive. . . I've used them to make dishsoap and have also used the liquid on my floors, it works great! . Soapnut liquid has a 2 week shelf life or a month in the fridge and even longer if you freeze them in an ice tray. You can extend the life of them further by adding essential oils, such as eucalyptus or Lavender oil. . ☆MAKE SURE YOU LABEL YOUR JAR IF STORING IN THE FRIDGE☆ Soap nuts are a fruit so make small batches if your not going to freeze them 》 To extract the liquid : *Add 6 Cups of water to a pan *Add 15 Soap Nuts *Bring to a boil *once its boiling, turn down and let simmer for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally. *Remove from the heat and let it completely cool. You should have about 3-4 cups of liquid. *If you have a compost they can be added to it. Some people leave the liquid to cool over night, I haven't yet but it's up to you. *Strain the cool soap nut liquid using a strainer with fine mesh. Use a spoon or something similar to squish the saponins out of the nuts. *Add you Liquid to a sterile jar or to an ice tray and freeze. I then plop..one or two of the soap nut ice cubes into hot water to wash the floor. Yesterday I learned that a friend was taken from us way too soon. There are so many questions as to what happened and it just makes my mind race and my heart hurt. Wishing we had tried harder to get together, but lives and babies get it in the way. From now on I am going to make an effort to spend more time with those that I care about. I have never been a fan of Console, until yesterday. This seems to be what happens for me. There have been a couple of oils that I don’t love the smell of, until I actually need them. Yesterday was the day that this oil changed for me. I am rubbing it on my heart and wrists, breathing it in. Allowing it to comfort me. Console is a blend of Frankincense, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Labdanum, Amyris, Sandalwood, Rose and Osmanthus. Use it when you have lost someone to help comfort you and give you hope and healing.
